A return of the annual column about my emotions during College Football’s first week. A word of warning: I will be talking about Appalachian State in this article.

It’s back! Here are my tips for the first games of the new college football season…

After Michigan and Ohio State were thumped in the Big Ten’s biggest bowl appearances earlier this year, conference fans are certainly quieter than they used to be. It used to be the case that no-one gets through the Big Ten season unscathed, and yet Ohio State have managed it twice in a decade. If the Big Ten finally lives up to its reputation and the teams start beating each other in the way that the SEC teams do week in, week out, then it should bring it back from the shadows of good ol’ Southern football.

Bruising, passionate football. The smell of bourbon in the air. Pretty sorority girls. Drunk frat boys who don’t know what day it is. And hedges. Lots of hedges. It must be the SEC.

Man, with the sports world deteriorating, we need some football, huh? Division races, conference battles, and players jockeying for the college game’s most glorified award: The Heisman Trophy. Steve Spurrier should have been fired. Immediately. Without pay. You would have been if it were you.

Yet Spurrier, who in his elevated god-like status in the SEC, is somehow above the law. Spurrier can come out and speak out in public against the policies of his school and threaten to leave if they’re not changed, and his boss changes the policies to placate him.
