Last week the Sportscolumn staff picked 64% of the games right. Overall, our record is 62% right. That’s not setting any records but we’re still beating the “experts” at ESPN.com who are picking only 59%. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather get more right and not have to look at that that smug bastard, Merrill Hoge. In any case, here are the week 3 picks.

The Washington Redskins have built a legacy of good running backs. That legacy begins with Larry Brown. Brown was the first Redskins running back to gain more than 1,000 yards in a single season. He achieved that feat twice in a career that ran from 1969 to 1976.
Greg Maddux is about to do something no other pitcher has done…again! Maddux earned his 300th victory against the Giants on August 7th, but his next win will be his biggest milestone of the season.
Remember last week how I compared beating the Giants to beating a retard at checkers? Well, this week, Mike Tice and his short bus came to town. Don’t get me wrong, the Vikings are a very very talented team, especially on offense. But Tice and his coaching staff (with some help from a flustered Culpepper and The Phreak) managed to drive that bus right off a cliff.

If you let it, rain can do a lot to dampen your spirits (pun intended, I guess). In July, on the morning of the annual McGowan Open golf tournament, I woke up to a drizzle that eventually turned into a torrential downpour on the eighth hole. Fearing a lightning strike akin to the Bishop on the 18th green in Caddyshack, we took an unscheduled hour and a half break in the clubhouse, during which a bunch of us cracked open some Bud Lites at 8:30 AM on a Saturday. My team was leading the tournament at the turn; a cancellation of the tourney after nine holes would have given Team Brewsaders our first-ever possession of the McGowan Cup trophy.
What a difference a week makes! Last week, no one gave the Packers a chance to win their Monday night matchup against Carolina and this week, no one is willing to touch the Panthers with a ten foot pole. Meanwhile all of us are picking Green Bay to beat the Bears. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of games we still disagree on. Here are your Week 2 picks, served piping hot.
When week 1 begins, all teams are optimistic. There is just that one chance the season could be a success. But what happens when this turnaround goes sour.
