Penn State, at home, this year is too tough. Wow, did you think you’d hear those words this year? What a dream season this has been so far for the Nittany Lions of Penn State coached by none-other than Joe Paterno. Yes, Joe Paterno. The same guy who was being asked by the alumni of Penn State to step down after two National Championship, five undefeated seasons, and years and years of glory. But Paterno, who turns 79 in December, persevered and it looks like he may very well get the last laugh after all. Resurgence could be the word you use to describe this football team, as Joe has made some key recruits, his senior leadership led by quarterback Michael Robinson and company; the Lions continue to show us (the audience, press, etc.) that through pride, strength, and success with honor it’s never over for elite football programs such as Penn State.
I Was Wrong- Hasek Still Rocks
Obviously Dominik Hasek is one of the best goaltenders of all time. There is no doubt about that. But going into this season at 40 years old who honestly believed that he could play up to the par of the NHL goalies nowadays. The new rules certainly didn’t help his chances. Although we’re only about 10 games into the season it looks as though Hasek is well on his way to another Vezina Trophy.
I guess the Philadelphia Eagles have had enough of his act and will “Keyshawn” him for the rest of the season. The final straw might have been his statement that the Eagles would be 7-0 with Brett Favre at the helm and that McNabb is hurting the team. Clearly, anyone who thinks that is violating the league’s substance abuse policy. (Thanks for the tip, BP.)
Update: Reid in response to a question about suspending TO, replied, “We’ll see how things go, I’m still in the middle of addressing the whole issue and finding out all the information.”
Update 11/5: ESPN is reporting that Terrell Owens is suspended indefinitely.

NFL Week 9 Picks November 6 2005
Can you believe it’s week 9 already? This season is going by way too quickly. The good news is that after a hard start, we are hitting our stride. Once again, we beat the ESPN experts .732 to .675 correct. If you want to check out how we stack up against almost every site that picks games, check out this nifty spreadsheet from Tokar.
If you’re using these picks for advice on your office pool, go with BostonMac aka Ryan McGowan. He’s been on a tear lately. Aside from his homer pick of Patriots over Colts this week, the rest are solid.
An exciting four-game sweep
It isn’t very often that a four-game sweep can be called exciting, but the 2005 World Series had a lot of excitement packed into a short series. Extra innings, timely hits, great defense, tough pitching, big home runs from unlikely sources… this was a series that should have gone the distance just for the possibility of further drama.

Which two of these teams should play for the national championship?
The job status of Fisher DeBerry has been debated throughout the nation. Should he or should he not be fired? Avery Smith answers that question and provides thorough analysis as to why Vince Young just might win the Heisman. Avery also gives his pick as to who will win the Virginia Tech/Miami game and why Wisconsin will struggle in "Happy Valley".
Packers Lose Close Game… Again
At first, it seems awful. In fact, it seems pathetic. Four interceptions against a good Cincinnati Bengals team from a first ballot selection to the hall-of-fame.
