When 3 of the teams in the Top 10 lose to inferior opponents, you can expect a shake up in our Power Rankings. The top three (Indy, Pitts, Denver) don’t change but we have Cinci and Seattle moving up. This week’s big game of Colts at Bengals will go a long way in determining whether Cinci belongs up there. Meanwhile, the Giants and Falcons deservedly drop in the ranks.
Moving to the Attic
I am the Bizarro Chicken Little. The sky is actually growing. After 8 games, my basketball team has failed to post a single losing record. They’ve now had 8 chances to take that familiar plunge into the lottery pool, the shallow end of the NBA where also-rans bob around in their floaties and learn how to hopefully make it to the deep end one day. Over the past decade, the Warriors have been the kid who simply refuses to get out of the lotto pool, closing hours and pruned fingers be damned. But this year, the Warriors haven’t so much as dipped a toe into the lottery waters, instead sprinting for the deep end and diving in headfirst. And the only thing more surprising than seeing the Warriors in the deep end for the first time in 12 years? They’re keeping their heads above water.
Who ends up in LA?
Paul Tagliabue recently visited Los Angeles and said that he is committed to bringing a football team back to LA. Now he never specified when or how. But there are rumors flying around that we’re not far removed from a new team being in Los Angeles.
The Rose Bowl which is also known as the National Championship site for this year in college football. And even if you don’t want to face it, you know that you will be seeing the USC Trojans playing the Texas Longhorns in the Rose Bowl this year. Whether you like the way the BCS works, agree with the weakness of schedule these teams have, or just can’t stand either team, there is nothing that you or I can do about it. Just face it, the Trojans and Longhorns will be playing for the national title. Now we just have to decide who we think will win it all.
Major League Baseball finally gathered up some balls and stepped to the plate Tuesday. According to The Associated Press, the MLB Owners and Players Union have agreed to beef up the leagues steroid policy in a big way.
It’s a relatively simple formula that many NFL teams use: an inexperienced Quarterback that plays efficient mistake-free games, a defense that forces turnovers, a powerful running game, and solid special teams play.
No, I’m not talking about the 6-3 Chicago Bears, who have perfected this formula so far this year, and are on their way to a home-field playoff game. This was supposed to be the game plan for the Buffalo Bills in 2005. That’s what Tom Donahoe, Mike Malarkey, and the rest of the Bills organization sold the fans but abandoned after only four weeks.
“It’s designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything is new again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains comes, it stops, and leaves you to face the fall alone.” -A. Bartlett Giamatti
Such is life of a baseball fan. Here we are in mid-November with only a few meaningless awards to argue over and the coals of the Hot Stove to warm us/coax us through the winter. My brothers, I feel your pain. Meaningless or not, however, argue we must.
Going For The Win
In two consecutive weeks, fans have been able to witness the glory that is the “killer instinct” — that desire to go out for the win and not settle for tying up the game. Dick Vermeil and Jon Gruden get the thumbs up from me for their willingness to throw caution to the wind, and go for the “W”.

Colon as AL Cy Young Winner?
The Baseball Writers’ Association of America voted on the American League Cy Young Award Winner, and it was a surprise to many. Some think that there was some biased opinions involved, but others think that the nomination of Bartolo Colon was not the right one.
