Jimmy Smith is retiring as a Jacksonville Jaguar. He has meant a whole lot to the team and just as much to the fans. He has put a lot of hard work and effort into this franchise since playing with them ever since their inaugural season in 1995.
Irving, TX — So, it took Bill Parcells 48 days to comment on the
acquisition of one of the most controversial professional athletes of this generation. Some want to make an issue of the fact that it took so long for Parcells to address the signing of the Cowboys’ new superstar wide receiver, Terrell Owens. But when it comes to Dallas media and the Cowboys, to say that the microscope is extremely
high powered would be a grand understatement. Show me a Cowboy beat reporter who leaves stones unturned or loose spin jobs, and I’ll show you an AM traffic reporter in Huntsville.
The Boys Are Back
One could make the statement that the Dallas Cowboys should have made the playoffs last year, and that they should have beaten the Redskins, Broncos, Raiders and Seahawks. They didn’t do any of that but this season will tell a much different story.
O Depth- Where Art Thou?
by Matt Wells
Depth: Strength held in reserve, especially a supply of skilled or capable replacements.
In the sports world, depth is an asset that every team in every sport wishes to have. Each sport has a particular position where depth is most wanted. Though it is wanted at all positions, depth is most desirable at a certain position.
In football, you hope to have depth at the quarterback position. In baseball, you want pitching/bullpen depth, for pitchers seem to get hurt the most often. Basketball might be the only sport where depth is needed at each position; after all, you want a strong bench. And then, there’s hockey. The position of goaltender is where you want the most depth.
Breaking Down the NBA Playoffs
By Trevor Freeman
With the second round of the NBA Playoffs one game old, it is time to breakdown the NBA’s “Elite Eight”. At this juncture it looks like cars are going to be overturned and lit on fire once again in the bustling metropolis known as Detroit. The Eastern Conference playoffs are just a mere formality on the road to destiny. Out West there is a little bit more intrigue. Dallas and San Antonio seem destined for seven games and the Phoenix Suns look to have risen from the ashes. Without further ado let’s begin where the sun sets………….
The Week in Sports!
Smails takes on the week that was. I re-cap some of the top stories, and blast away at those that need blasting. An entertaining look at the week in sports.
State of the Playoffs Address
First Round Provides Stunning Series
Last second heroics, rim shattering slam dunks, flying mouth guards, and a Clippers playoff victory and that’s only in the first week of the NBA postseason. The 2006 NBA playoffs were built up to be the emergence of a “King,” the “Diesel’s” last go around (hopefully), Los Angeles’ one man show, and the unfortunate vindication of playing team basketball. The first round definitely did not disappoint this year.
The tender state of `tenders
NHL pundits have traditionally relied on the old adage that the key to winning the Stanley Cup is solid goaltending. “Build the Cup winner from the goalie out” is commonly heard as color commentary. Well, this first year of the “new NHL” may put that generally accepted assertion to the test.
New deal extends game’s tenure in Dallas until 2010, but does not ensure long-term future.
Western Withdrawal?
Don’t blame the majority of Western conference hockey fans for not paying too much attention to the rest of the playoffs. Of the four teams that remain, (Anaheim, Colorado, Edmonton, and San Jose), three teams have a lack of legitimate playoff goaltending, defense, and experience. This can be disputed of course, but if you take a closer look, you’ll see why Western fans are looking away.
