Jimmy Smith is retiring as a Jacksonville Jaguar. He has meant a whole lot to the team and just as much to the fans. He has put a lot of hard work and effort into this franchise since playing with them ever since their inaugural season in 1995.Jimmy Smith has had a heck of a run in his long career as a Jaguar. He has been an emotional and veteran leader to the club. Now that he has left, the Jags will have to find a guy to replace him in those areas. That will not be easy to do either.
Jimmy Smith could easily make a case for himself that he is the greatest player to wear a Jacksonville Jaguar uniform. He holds a huge amount of records for the Jacksonville Jaguars. They are as follows:

Now if these records do not convince you that he is one of the best Jaguars to play the game, I don’t know what will. He will even be able to make an argument for being one of the greatest players in the NFL. In fact, he will most likely be in the Hall of Fame one day.
As a Jaguar fan myself, I have greatly appreciated what Jimmy Smith has brought to the ball club. Even the bad things he has gone through, such as the cocaine incident, he has come back a stronger person, better man, and better football player. Unlike what has happened with Ricky Williams, when Jimmy Smith came back from rehab, he came back with apologies everywhere. He apologized to the team and the fans for what he had done. That isn’t even what makes me happy with how he dealt with it. I’m glad because of he came back and played football and left all of his problems back in the rehab center. I mean, we all make mistakes, it just depends how we deal with them that determines what kind of person we are. And Jimmy Smith is a good person.
Jimmy is not just a good person. He is also a very good football player. He was one of the NFL’s top wide outs (maybe a bit under the radar) and basically the team’s best offensive player. We all know that the Jaguars have lacked a lot of offense the passed few seasons, but when the Jags would make a late two minute run Jimmy Smith would be there for them coming up with huge catches and yards after the catch. He has been a huge asset to the team ever since they were started in ’95.
Jimmy Smith, 37 year old, 6 foot 1, 208 pounder out of Jackson State, thank you for the run. It’s been great having you in the NFL. And congratulations on you long and successful career.

there is a chance… — that jimmy will maake the hall of fame but i dont think that he wil be on the firzt ballot if he is indeed selected. having the most two point conversions in a game, and the most special teams TDs is not going to convince anyone that he is a grear player. Smith’s only saving grace is his touchdown total and receiving yards. a great guy on and off the field but the hall of fame may be a stretch especially since he has not had any postseason sucess.
ok, but.. your stats take up more than half of the whole story
Yes they do And that, my friend, is Young’s best argument that Smith is the greatest Jag ever. He has THAT MANY RECORDS!
Good job, Young. You get my vote.
Smith was so underrated… He was definitely way under the radar as far as the top wide receivers in football. Made all the plays, got none of the pub. I’ll admit, I’m selfishly glad he’s retiring, considering the Steelers play the Jags this year.
