Yesterday Cowboys WR Terrell Owens attempted to commit suicide by overdosing on prescription pain killers. According to sources, 35 of the 40 pills remaining in the prescription were still remaining before yesterday. The medication was intended to help Owens deal with his recent injury, a broken bone involving his right ring finger.

Saints of a City

Nobody in this country could have been unhappy when they saw the score of the Monday Night Football game rolling across their screen this morning. The New Orleans Saints routed the Atlanta Falcons 23-3, moving to 3-0 with a great defense and special teams performance. How could anyone not feel good for the Saints?

NHL Preview – Southeast Division

As training camps begin to open in the National Hockey League, it is never too early to look into the crystal ball and see how this season will play out. This off-season saw its share up interesting head scratches and stories. We started the off-season with even more of the human soap opera that is Todd Bertuzzi, and then ended with the summer blockbuster of Evgini Malkin. This has been one amazing off-season.  So, who’s going to win the drink and who’s going to be on the clock in Columbus? In a six part series, we will look at the six NHL conferences and how they will stack up at the end. We’ll break them down alphabetically, and look at the one major off-season transaction that will determine where they go.

The Twins’ Secret to Their Success

By C. Eric Lincoln

It’s autumn, and along with falling leaves around the Midwest, you can almost be sure that if there’s a pennant race the Minnesota Twins are in it. They are like a good hunting dog that smells the scent of wounded prey —  Detroit Tigers slipping, Chicago White Sox stumbling out of sight. If it’s September, it is likely that the beloved Twinkies will be here. The secret to their annual success may well surprise you.

MLB Power Rankings for September 21st- 2006

Welcome everybody to the second-to-last MLB Power Rankings of the season. By this time next week we’ll know who’s going to be playing baseball in October and who’s going to be playing golf. We’ll know whether or not Ryan Howard joined the 60-homerun club (he needs three), and whether Alfonso Soriano became the charter member of the 50-50 club (he’ll need a massive last couple days, 5 homeruns and 10 stolen bases). We’ll also know exactly how many homeruns Barry Bonds will need to catch Hank Aaron if he comes back and plays next year, and how many wins Roger Clemens will need to catch Denton True Young, better known as Cy (it’ll be somewhere in the 170 range, but I think he might be able to do it.).

So baseball fans… read on, enjoy, feel free to question, comment, and complain, and I’ll talk to you again next week for the season wrap-up.

This is my very biased view of Virginia Tech’s 2006 football season. The QB is not the key. Warning: very long.
