After a bittersweet football weekend where my Ohio State Buckeyes won in Iowa, and my Cincinnati Bengals lost to the Patriots, I was hoping that Monday night would be the best game of the week. Well, it wasn’t exactly the best game but the result couldn’t have been better for the Philadelphia Eagles who defeated the Packers 31-9. It might have been the Packers but the Eagles are slowing showing their former selves.

2006 NFL Week 5 Picks
Last week we went a combined 35-21, a win percentage of .625. For the first time all season, we did not beat the ESPN experts who got a combined .641. The top scorer for the fourth straight week was Vegas Vinny with 10 correct.
We’re also going to let the weekly winner of the Sportscolumn pickem contest pick the games as well. Week 3’s winner was PMD with 12 correct and his picks for this week are included below.
There is no podcast this week but we’ll return next week.
Giant Devastation
Are the Giants for real? Are they capable of going “all the way”? Do they possess enough weapons to represent the NFC East in the playoffs? Well…do they?
Not exactly. It could be the fact that they were thrown under the bus before the 06′ campaign, when they realized they would have one of the hardest schedules in the league, besides the Bengals. A shock? Ahhhh, maybe not. The Giants are highly capable of beating any team in the league, but it just won’t happen. Considering the Giants D is simply an obliteration, with a non-existent LaVar Arrington, and for that fact, a non-existent linebacker core, the schedule is even more an enemy than ever.
The Best Damn Playoff Analysis…Period
I woke up this morning and went out to the porch to grab the newspaper. I noticed two things: it was a little chillier than usual, and the paper felt a little lighter. “This could only mean one thing!” I thought. “It must be October!” (Give me a break, I know it’s the third day of the month; I can’t process those things at 6:30 in the morning).
So with the change in weather, comes a change in baseball. The 32-team league is narrowed down to the elite eight; four from both the American and the National leagues. Every year, the postseason comes and brings along questions that begged to be answered. This year: Who will shine? Who will slump? Can the Cardinals and Tigers pick up their games? Does the loss of Pedro affect the Mets’ championship hopes?
And of course: Who will win it all? Well look no farther my humble subjects, for JDWC has all the answers to these questions and the predictions for the MLB 2006 postseason. (Yeah, I know it’s not timely, but better late than never right?)
The End of an Era in Atlanta
It was a golden age for Atlanta: 14 consecutive division titles, 5 National League pennants, 1 World Series victory. From the improbable turnaround from obscurity in 1991 to the final playoff meltdown in the 2005 Division Series, the Braves were royalty in the baseball realm and were consequently perpetual targets, adding even more mystique to one of the most impressive runs in the history of sports.

Eastern Conference Season Preview
With the NBA season quickly coming upon us, it is up to every sports writer to offer his or her expert opinion on what exactly will come of the 2006-2007 season. Their answer? They have no idea. The Heat retain all the same players from the team that defeated the Mavericks in 6 games a year ago, but they also are one of the oldest teams in the league. Teams such as the Bucks, Bulls, Clippers, and Grizzlies are being questioned whether or not their “promising” youth can lead them further into the playoffs. On the other side are teams like the Cavaliers, Suns, Nets, and Mavericks; teams that have been hanging around the past few years around the entrance to the NBA Finals, only to be turned down like the dorky kid at a dance. And before I go on and mention every NBA team, let us not forget about the talented but chemistry lacking squads such as the Knicks, Blazers, and Raptors. All your questions will be answered, starting with the Eastern Conference:
First Things First
Think your favorite team can lose early and still win the Super Bowl? Don’t bet on it.
Let’s Start October
With the 2006 playoffs starting Tuesday that means there will be a million predictions between now and the World Series. With that in mind I felt I could give some of my knowledge and predictions for the playoffs even though none of my “favorite” teams are in. So lets get our hands dirty and diagnose this thing.
