“New Look Giants”

By Billy Fellin

The 2007 Super Bowl Champions came into the 2008 season being underrated, disrespected and basically ignored. And why not? It’s not like they beat the previously undefeated New England Patriots. But that’s just the way that the Giants like it.
The Giants have looked dominant thus far this year, their most recent victory coming against a normally formidable Seattle team. So what is the cause of this success? This success is coming from confidence, depth and experience.

"14-6: The Historic Championship Season of New York’s Imperfect Giants"

“We can’t all be heroes because someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by.” -Will Rogers

About 50 blocks south of me the New York Giants are holding court in the Canyon of Heroes. Thousands are flooding lower Manhattan in an overwhelming parade of gratitude. Thank you, Big Blue. For doing for your fans what the Red Sox did for Boston in 2004. We needed more than just a Super Bowl, and somehow the Giants gave it to us.

Why I Care About The Giants So Much

I had the good fortune of watching the last two New York Giants games in the company of a young lady who can only be described as “heavenly”, by virtue of us both being invited to watch the contests at the apartment of a mutual friend.  Playoff football is not a conducive atmosphere to get to know someone, so I have every intention of asking her out for a cup of coffee the day after Super Bowl 42.

Quest for Greatness: A Punter’s Tale

A little trivia question: Who holds the NFL record for most consecutive games played?  Brett Favre, of course… right?  Nope.  Incorrect.  Negatory.  Wrongo.  The correct answer is Jeff Feagles.  No, not the crazy kicker from Ace Ventura.  That was Ray Finkle.  “If he had held the ball laces out like he’s supposed to, Ray would never have missed that kick… Dan Marino should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell!”  Jeff Feagles is in fact a punter, currently booting the ball down field after frequent Eli Manning third-and-outs with the Giants.

It ain’t over ’til it’s over

By Billy Fellin

Woo-hoo! I love this time of year. The Yankees are in the playoffs, the Hurricanes start tonight against the Canadiens and the Giants are finally showing signs of life! In my return from a long hiatus from Sportscolumn, I will be discussing the Big Blue. They didn’t play great in the opening two games, but against the Redskins and Eagles they came alive and high hopes for the season are back.

New York- We Have a Problem

There are a few times in a man’s life when they are more pissed off than when there is no toilet paper available after you took a gigantic dump, but let me assure you, this is one of those times.

I have been a New York Giant at heart ever since I came out of the womb. I have witnessed their ups and downs, good times and bad. I attended their 41-0 complete domination of the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship, as well as their 34-7 Super Bowl loss against the Baltimore Ravens when Trent Dilfer looked as if he was John Elway.

Good Luck or Good Night

By Billy Fellin

Mr. Edward R. Murrow, a famous CBS newscaster who brought Joseph McCarthy to his knees in the Red Scare of the 50’s always signed off by saying “Good Night, and Good Luck”, hence the movie bearing this phrase as it’s title.  Flip it around and you have yourself a good playoff slogan for twelve teams vying for the Lombardi Trophy. In this article, let’s focus on the New York Giants.

Mbarone the GM: Fixing the Giants- Part One (Problem Identification)

Here I am, the total New York Giants fan. I have sat through fifteen weeks of wins, losses, good performances and bad ones. I have sat through injuries, from Derrick Ward to Sinorice Moss to Michael Strahan. In vain, I have watched Tim Lewis set up a zone defense, one in which the middle of the field is exposed. Here I am, I have seen Eli Manning make mistakes, throw his arms up in the air, and look like a wounded puppy all at the same time. Yes, I have seen the worst tackle and best hug of all time, courtesy of Mathias Kiwanuka to Vince Young. I saw Martin Gramatica, out of the NFL for 2 years (prior to 2006) kick that game-winning field goal, in our house. Please, on behalf of all of us- it is time for a total overhaul.
