Sunday "Service"

Sunday “Service”

By: Maurice K Dixon

“Let us begin our praise and worship service.”

Well, these aren’t the exact words, but due to synonymous actions, it translates into an accurate statement.  As usual, this portion of service is held on Sunday mornings, but just from September to the end of the year.  Those in attendance normally clap, raise their hands and lift their voices in unison.

However, this service does not contain a closing speaker (i.e. bishop, pastor), a choir, a voluntary offering or worst of all the presence of a Bible.

Oh, I apologize!  I failed to mention this ain’t no church service.  It’s an NFL stadium.

BASEBALL CAN’T AFFORD TO AVOID CHANGE ANY LONGER

Honestly, Major League Baseball is so stubborn when it comes to change, but that may be about to change.

A profession set so deep in its ways that a bitter woman is more prone to change her view of men.  Yeah, it is that bad especially when we live in an age where technological advances have made life easier.  Not just everyday living, but sports as well with the NFL, NBA and NHL, which have all implemented instant replay to get the call right.

No Tats?! Who?!

By: Maurice K Dixon

Chris Paul is rare.  Not just because of his amazing ability to change direction in a split second or his position of being one of the best in assists and assists-to-turnovers ratio in the NBA.  Dwyane Wade is in the same boat.  And not due to his talent of effortlessly splitting two defenders on a pick-and-roll prior to attacking the rim without fear of contact.  The physically and athletically gifted Dwight Howard rounds out this trio of established young stars, who are a majority in the league due to their African American heritage (83 percent of NBA players are black).

Yet, these three are minorities when compared to many of their counterparts since neither of them dons any viewable tattoos.  Along with a handful of other players, Paul, Wade and Howard would almost be a better fit in the 80’s and 90’s.  Their styles of play do not carry a retro tag, but their unmarked skin does in a league where nearly 80 percent of its players display body art, which is totally out of control like gas prices.
