Breaking Down the AFC

by Trevor Freeman

If the NFL had a playoff system like the NCAA Tournament, where each team that won their division got an automatic bid and the rest of the tourney got filled out by the next best teams, AFC fans would rejoice.  This is because the AFC would probably fill just about every at-large bid.  You can make a very strong argument that seven of the NFL’s ten best team are in the AFC.  From the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots to the “on the cusp” Houston Texans, the AFC is flat out loaded.  The AFC East and West look to be particularly bruising.  Since we began in the “Not So Wild” NFC West for our NFC preview we start back East for my AFC version.

College Football Preseason Top 25

by Trevor Freeman

As I was sifting through a magazine stand about a week ago, I made one of my favorite discoveries.  That’s right, I came across a college football preview magazine.  You know what that means folks………we are almost there.  I can almost feel Boise State marching into Georgia; I can almost see Texas and The Ohio State University hooking up in what should be a thriller.  Remember when Bernard Hopkins called out Roy Jones and said to him, “Roy if you’re not going to fight me, then you have to ask yourself.  Are you really a fighter?”  Well, if you don’t enjoy the intensity, atmosphere, and feel of college football then you have to ask yourself.  Are you really a football fan?

The A’s Roll Into the All-Star Break

by Trevor Freeman

I read the e-mails at the beginning of the year.

I listened as the talking heads disparaged them.

I shook my head when they stood at 17-32, because I knew this was a playoff caliber ballclub.

I stood up for them and kept reminding people that this team has a history of slow starts.

One Man’s Trip to the Ballpark

by Trevor Freeman

There are two types of brave.  The first type is courageous.  Fighting in war, defying a series of odds, saving a life.  The second type is the “stupid” kind.  Examples would be jumping off the roof into your swimming pool or trying to swipe the bell off the top of Taco Bell.  Wearing an opposing team’s hat into Yankee Stadium definitely constitutes the second type of brave.

Ten Reasons why you should be watching the NBA Playoffs

by Trevor Freeman

Before I get started………yes I know I am the same guy who penned “25 Reasons why the NCAA trumps the NBA”. However I am a basketball fan. I think basketball is the finest sport on the planet and I believe this year’s NBA season has been the best one in the past five years. That is why I am writing this piece, as I would like to encourage all of you to watch the NBA playoffs. “40 games in 40 nights” has already gotten off to a great start and should only get better. Here are ten storylines/reasons why you should be watching the NBA Playoffs in reverse order.

2005 NFL Mock Draft

by Trevor Freeman

With the NFL Draft on the horizon, it is time for me to come with my draft day predictions.  The 49ers are already on the clock and have announced that negotiations have been opened with UC-Berkeley’s Aaron Rodgers, Utah’s Alex Smith, and Michigan’s Braylon Edwards.  While I am still a big proponent of the my 49ers trading down, I believe they will be locked into the #1 overall selection.  No prospect has stepped up and asserted himself as being the best player on the board.  Without further adieu, here how I think the draft will shake out.

Taking a look at the Sports Leader

by Trevor Freeman

I haven’t watched any of Tilt.  I couldn’t tell you who the lead cast members are, who produces or directs it.  The person playing Don “The Matador” Everest could pass me on the street and I would sooner ask, “Who is this loser” than beg for an autograph.

AL West Preview

by Trevor Freeman

The AL West should be a season long roller coaster ride.  It would not surprise me if all four teams in this division finish with between 79 and 94 wins.  There were a lot of comings and goings with this group.  We said “So long” to Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, Troy Glaus and Troy Percival while waiving “hello” to Adrian Beltre, Jason Kendall, and Steve Finley.  How will it all shake out?  Here is a summary of each team with our projected order of finish at the bottom of the page.

The Slipper Will Fit for These Two Cinderellas

by Trevor Freeman

With college basketball’s regular season winding down, I felt it was time for me to peg the two teams which I feel will create the most bracket disruption come March.  These two schools have all the qualities necessary to wear the “slipper” and I feel it is only a matter of time before you begin to hear names like Paul Marigney and Jamar Howard.  While these teams generally do not get to the Final Four, they usually find their way to the Sweet 16 and if the Gods are aligned perhaps the Elite Eight.  I think it is these “Cinderella” teams that make the NCAA Tournament the greatest sporting spectacle on the planet.  If you did not get the hint above and do not know the two teams I see causing the most bracket damage in March, let me reveal them to you now.
