Breaking Down The Final Four

by Trevor Freeman

For the first time ever, all four top seeds made it to the Final Four.  The only plus to this in my opinion is that it should shut up everybody who claims the current tournament system does not reward the best regular season teams.  That is because the four teams remaining were without a doubt the best four teams during this year’s college basketball season.  Outside of Kansas who had an epic tussle with Davidson in the Elite Eight, they all romped their way into this Final Four with convincing wins in the Regional Finals and Semifinals.  We have four bluebloods attending this event as UCLA, North Carolina, Kansas and Memphis represent the college basketball elite.  Without further ado, let’s breakdown the matchups.

The Madness Has Arrived

by Trevor Freeman

Jalapeno Poppers.  Glass Slippers.  Yuengling.  Bryce Drew.  Chili Cheese Nachos.  Harold Arcenaux.  Chicken Wings.  Rumeal Robinson.  Budweiser.  Bill Raftery.  Mozzarella Sticks.  Bracket Busters.  Tequila.  Jeff Fryar.  Are you filling out your bracket right now?  Is today the most unproductive Monday you have had in weeks?  Don’t be concerned.  It is that way for everybody.  It was an excruciating wait between now and the end of the Super Bowl, but it is finally here.  Ladies and Gentleman……….the Madness has arrived.

Getting Warmed Up For The Madness

by Trevor Freeman

College basketball is heating up and thanks to the San Francisco 49ers I have had plenty of time to take in the action.  In fact, due to Mike Nolan’s ineptitude and the fact that he coaches these games like an overmatched 17-year old college freshman worried about making a move on anything with a set of breasts…..I have been watching plenty of college basketball since late October.  Instead of doing my usual preseason Top 25, I decided to hold it back until the preseason ended and conference play began.  Our look starts in Southern California with a team that is long on talent but short on chemistry.

A Vote For Hawaii

by Trevor Freeman

Before I get rolling, let the record show that my being a part of ten consecutive Waikiki bar crawls was a nonfactor in getting this column off the ground.  In fact, I resent any implication that my love of Mai Thais, the hula, surfing and the hula had any bearing on the argument I am about to make.

Red Rover- Red Rover Send Blackburn Right Over

by Trevor Freeman

With the San Francisco 49ers out of the playoff hunt in October for another season and college basketball still a couple weeks away, I figured it was time to talk about my newest sporting love.  The Blackburn Rovers.  That’s right, not only have I not written for our site for over a month, but when I do I am hopping in on the topic of English Premier League Football.  I have officially shifted gears to become the Vinnie Chase of our site.  I am only writing articles that satisfy my own creative/sports needs.

Our Look At The NFC

By Trevor Freeman

I have a question for Roger Goodell that is deeper and more important than the ones which arise from the “Pac-Man” Jones and Michael Vick situations.  It is one that needs to be kicked around and debated at the highest levels.  The burning issue that I have with the NFL is that they don’t start the season the Sunday before Labor Day.  How awesome would it be to have a consequences-free, “do you want a shot of Jose Cuervo to wash down those Yuenglings” first Sunday of football season. It would be a situation where everybody wins.  The beer companies win.  The bars win.  The fans win.  We all win.

Is This The Start Of A True Summertime Competition?

By Trevor Freeman

Many have scoffed at the viability of Major League Soccer since its inception in 1994.  There has always been a dismissive “this won’t rate any higher on the sports spectrum than Arena Football” tone towards it.  Names like “Real” Salt Lake, “F.C.” Dallas and D.C. “United” were both comedic and a little bit sad.  However like George Foreman in his fight against Michael Moorer, this league just stuck around.  And then last night, it delivered its biggest punch as David Beckham grabbed the front page in a way that had to be joyful for America’s soccer fans.  The box score will say that he delivered two assists in a loss to the New York-New Jersey Red Bulls and that will not reflect the performance he had last night.  David Beckham delivered with the bright lights on.  And by doing so, he has given this league a chance at being relevant.

Breaking Down The Top 25

by Trevor Freeman

Tailgate parties.  “The Swamp”.  Pabst Blue Ribbon.  Camp Randall.  “Whoa Nellie”.  Saturday afternoon.  Buffalo Wings.  Flutie to Phelan.  Boise State.  It has been eight months, but ladies and gentlemen……..college football season has arrived.  With that, it is time for us to take our annual look.  Let’s begin our Top 25 in the land of sun, sports cars and hot cheerleaders…….

A Story Of Rebirth

by Trevor Freeman

As I was sitting on the balcony of my Opa’s (grandfather in Dutch) apartment in Hawaii he said to me, “You haven’t written an article on Bill Walsh yet.”  I told him that I had been meaning to but had gotten distracted with the amount of options that Hawaii can offer a honeymooning couple.  He responded, “Make sure you write something about the greatest coach the NFL has ever seen on the airplane home.”

Who Won And Lost In This Year’s NBA Draft

by Trevor Freeman

Pizza or Tacos………Tacos.  Yuengling, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or Natty Light……Natty Light.  You gotta go Old School for an event like this.  Golden State Warrior Throwback jersey or Boom Dizzle Warriors Jersey…….Boom Dizzle.  Are there better “drinking” sporting events than the NFL and NBA Drafts?  A couple minutes to pee between picks and grab snacks.  No pressure to pay complete attention.  Mel Kiper and Jay Bilas squaring off to see who can be the bigger sports nerd.  Pro and college intersecting to form a perfect union.

There are many recaps you can read on this wonderful event.  Just know that every other writer you will read was completely sober when they wrote their recap.  Not only could I not operate heavy machinery at this moment, but I am having problems getting the mouse to work correctly on my mousepad.  That speaks volumes about how much I care about covering this event.  We begin our look at the draft with………
