Fantasy Sports Weekly (Vol. 5 – 4th of July Edition)

This week I wanted to wait until the weekend to breakdown the 4th of July edition of the Fantasy Sports Weekly. I want to give a glimpse into the fantasy football crystal ball for all of you who have told me “I hate fantasy baseball…I’ll start reading when you have some fantasy football stuff…” and I will also breakdown the fantasy baseball all star team for the first half of the season.

But first…

Salute to Sports Video Games that Changed our Lives

TIGER WOODS 1999, EA Sports

Golf games took a turn for the better when the TIGER WOODS video game series hit shelves in 1999. The gameplay was a giant step up from the older versions of the EA Series: PGA Tour Golf.

Pebble Beach #18 anyone? In this game an Eagle was always a possibility!

Fantasy Football Crystal Ball

As a teaser for what’s to come in a few weeks, I wanted to jump out of the box and have a mock fantasy draft that everyone can participate in. I am going to do the first round and then on our forum section you can participate in building our top 100 players.

9 : Shaun Alexander

Fantasy Baseball Midseason All Star Team

C – Ivan Rodriguez, Detroit

Pudge has put up some great numbers this year. Over 50 RBI’s and an incredible Batting Average (.384) he is a first team SC.COM all star.

1B – Jim Thome, Philadelphia

Thome is a monster and with all due respect to Albert Pujols, Thome leads in more categories (HR, RBI, AVG, OPS) than Pujols (Hits, Runs, SB) that players look for in Fantasy Baseball.

2B – Michael Young, Texas

Young is technically a SS but since this is Fantasy Baseball he’s eligible for 2B all season. And he’s been sensational.

SS – Miguel Tejada, Baltimore

Tejada is a very very good player. He is not putting up MVP numbers but his AVG, Power and most notably RBI’s set him apart at SS.

3B – Alex Rodriguez, New York

A-Rod’s balance of power and speed along with top notch numbers in all major categories puts him easily in first place. (Note Scott Rolen is not eligible because he’s a whiny baby)

LF – Manny Ramirez, Boston

Let’s face it. Barry Bonds, love him or hate him, is SuperMan. But his fantasy numbers are lousy due to being pitched around. Manny is stuffing the stat sheet this year and is our top left fielder on the SC.COM fantasy baseball team.

CF – Carlos Beltran, Houston

Beltran is the 5-tool fantasy offensive player. He has 15 steals, 19 Homers, 55 RBI’s, 70+ hits and 50 runs.  Nizzice.

RF – Vladamir Guerrero, Anaheim

Vlad the Impaler. Dominating. I had Beltran and Vlad on my team at one point. Dealt Beltran for Posednik and Barry Zito due to lack of starting pitching. Without Vlad, I’d be depressed about that move but I’m not!

SP – Randy Johnson, Arizona

The Big Unit has been sick this year. Many pitchers are comparable in wins and ERA but he has 130 K’s already and is pitching dominant baseball. A workhorse.

RP – Mariano Rivera, New York

29 Saves. 35 K’s and a whopping .86 ERA/ 1.08 WHIP. Superb. Danny Graves came out on fire with SAVES but let’s face the REDS are not the YANKEES. Rivera is #1.
