LA Lakers

Lakers spelled without a K?

This morning Coach Mike Krzyzewski might have made the biggest decision of his life. Coach K turned down a 5 year, $41 million cotract to be head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. In his doing so, he also might have given the final blow to an already reeling Lakers organization.Coach K decided to turn down the glitz and glamour of Hollywood for the rowdy, in-your-face Cameron Crazies. The move makes sense for Coach K, who has led the Duke Blue Devils for the past 24 years and has led them to 3 national titles.

Duke was scrambling this past week, trying to figure out what they would do if the almighty Coach K decided to accept the offer that the Lakers, or should I say Kobe Bryant, extended to him. Campus officials were having press conferences and meetings to prepare for the blow that was sure to hit Durham, NC.

But all is well and happy as far as Duke Basketball is concerned. They once again have the best coach in college basketball and will be on top of the power poll for yet another season.

This is where the story turns grim. While all is well in Durham, Los Angeles is gasping for air. Lying on its death bed is the organization that has set the standard for basketball greatness ever since the 1960’s and the one and only Jerry West.

In less than one month’s time we’ve seen a Hall-of-Fame coach walk, the most dominant player in the league ask for a trade, and the heir to the great Michael Jordan try his hand in the free-agent market. The Los Angeles Lakers could be asking Luke Walton to lead this team into next season.

Coach K might have done the league a HUGE favor. Not accepting the Laker’s job could give everyone in every city outside of LA what they’ve wanted for the past 4 years: The end of the Lakers reign as the most dominant team in basketball. And really, even half of LA is ruiting for the Clippers, so you cant even say LA didnt want to see it.

Every day since the NBA Finals I have felt like a kid in the candy store. Every day i wake up, turn on Sportscenter, and YAY! another bad thing has happened to the Lakers.

I just hope I can have this much fun watching the Lakers lose all thier games next season.
