Locks of the Week |
[Editor’s Note: This year, we’re making the Locks of the Week a little more interesting as we have a side bet amongst the four experts. The person with the most money at the end of the year in Locks betting takes home all the money. Disclaimer: The amounts discussed are for illustrative and entertainment purposes only. Vegas Vinny: My careful analysis all season has netted $-225 and a locks record of 6-7-1. So here’s a pure “put a finger into the wind” play. While neither team has anything to play for, the Packers are building towards next year while the Jaguars have flat out quit. Fred Taylor is on IR, their $60M quarterback stinks, and nobody can name any of their receivers. Things are dire in Jacksonville. Is Jack Del Rio on the hot seat? Nobody knows because there’s no news coming out of Jacksonville. Because nobody cares — not even the Jaguars.
I don’t really understand the spread on this game. The Packers should win by at least a field goal. I’ll put $110 to win $100 on the Packers (-2). (Balance= $775)
BostonMac: It’s not a secret that I hate the San Diego Chargers and everything they stand for, so I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I would bet my left pinkie finger that they lose again this week. Theoretically, they have a shot at the playoffs if they win out, going 8-8 and beating Denver in Week 17 to win the division. Realistically, Norv Turner Happens.&n bsp; The Chiefs have been competitive lately, and if nothing else, Herm Edwards can motivate a team to keep playing hard. Getting 5.5 points is an early Christmas present to me from Vegas. I’m putting $110 to win $100 on KANSAS CITY (+5.5) over Loser Nation. (Balance = $1180)
Trevor F: Are the Giants really getting points in that Dallas game? Are we sure
that should actually be happening? I’m taking the Giants (+3) for $55. I
think there has now been sufficient time to get over the Plaxico
distraction. Had Domenik Hixon not dropped a sure touchdown the Giants
might still only be a one-loss team. I think the Giants beat the Cowboys
up this week. This is still the best team in the NFC and they have the
running game to grind out a win over the Cowboys. Look for Tony Romo to
walk off the field with a dazed look in his eye and for the Giants to be
celebrating that they are one step closer to home field advantage in the
playoffs (Balance = $1340)
RJ: The Dolphins have had an amazing season. They have come from hoping to improve on a one-win season, to being a “nice story,” all the way to being legitimate contenders in the AFC East and the Team Nobody Wants To Play. The 49ers are playing much better ball under Mike Singletary and look to continue to exert their influence AFC East race. As great as they played against the Jets last week, I think the familiar West to East beatdowns will continue with the Dolphins playing so well at home. The Dolphins (-6.5) should be at least a touchdown better than San Fran. $55-50 (I guess?) (Balance = $150)
