I don’t know what’s worse — that Tampa Bay and Calgary are actually on TV or that they are playing for the Stanley Cup.Maybe what’s worse is watching the PISTONS/PACERS series. Ugh. I am a basketball fan. I grew up playing every day of my early life. I was the kid next door who would shovel his driveway to shoot hoops in the dead of winter.
Played in middle school.
Travel Teams.
High School.
AAU.
Summer League.
Against Kobe.
Against Rasheed.
Against Rip Hamilton.
I love Basketball.
Yet not even I could watch the PACERS/PISTONS series. You see I appreciate defense. I really do. Great defense in all sports is a joy to watch. What I don’t appreciate is gross ineptitude on offense. That’s what this series was. The Pistons are horrible. Trust me. LA will demolish them. Watch.
But the real message of this article is to make one thing clear. THE NBA AND THE NHL ARE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE
I am not a NIELSEN Ratings person. I don’t even know who the hell NIELSEN is. I do know that the Stanley Cup finals and the NBA EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS are probably pissing NIELSEN off. Well at least they are pissing the fans off.
You put a NIELSEN box in my house? You would have seen the PHILS/METS on MLB EXTRA INNING until 10pm tonight and then Dave Chapelle show…RERUNS…That’s right RERUNS…And not even a full minute of the PISTONS/PACERS game 6.
[Tyrone Biggums looks a little healthier than Tayshaun Prince but I digress]
NHL? Who the hell knows. Maybe a few thousand Calgarians are watching but that’s about it.
NHL is on the brink of disaster…it’s inevitable as we all know. However, David Stern and Company think they are a giant power that cannot be touched. I have news for them…people are getting sick of the NBA. This is the worst ERA of NBA Basketball and it will have a long lasting effect.
Oh…and adding an expansion team to the mix to further dilute the talent pool? Brilliant Stern.
Hey David: Check the overnights on the PACERS/PISTONS game 6. Then check your pants.

it all comes down to the Refs Either the game has gotten too fast for them or they are just inept. But, the refs and their calls/non-calls are the main reason no one cares about the NBA anymore. The NBA keeps trying to anoint the new MJ… but what did MJ get? All the calls. So, if Kobe is the next MJ, then Kobe gets the calls. Tracy McGrady gets the calls. Iverson gets his fair share of calls. Darko Milicic.. nevermind.
Stern – you can’t mess with the integrity of the game. Once the accusation of “FIX” is in the public consciousness, it’s hard to get rid of, especially if you watch any Lakers games.
The dilution of the talent pool is ruining it too. There are no more great teams. Each team gets 1 or 2 superstars, shitty role players and no team play. Detroit is a much better TEAM than the Lakers but they’ll lose because the refs will call it all LA’s way.
Just check the tapes in a couple of weeks to see if I’m right.
