Victory for the NBA isn’t in the details

Thankfully, it appears that Billy Hunter was good on his promise to make one final phone call to NBA Commissioner David Stern before the June 30th expiration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

After marathon negotiations on Friday as well as over the weekend, the Players’ Association has come to an agreement with the NBA Owners and struck a deal on a new CBA. At the head of the line to show their appreciation for avoiding the second work stoppage in NBA history is the NBA’s Public Relations staff, thrilled that their services will not be necessary to rebuild the reputation of the league only seven years after having had to do it before.

NBA in Dire Need of Some Fans

In the sudden new era of basketball, the NBA as a league finds itself with a huge problem.  They have no more fans.  They seemed to have all left when Michael Jordan left.  With the NBA finding itself with no fans compared to the NFL, the league also finds itself with another problem.  Nothing is there for the league to use to help appeal to those not interested in the league as a whole.  What, do you actually expect the NBA to get high school players, or foreign players whose names are impossible to pronounce to help draw fans in?  Those the NBA is appealing to are those who are in the sixth-grade hoping someday to skip college, and go straight to the league because they think they have got the `ankle-breaking’ moves, or the `hops’ to get there.

Wallace gives us more questions than answers

Why?

Why does he complain after nearly every call by a referee? Why does he collect more technical fouls than any other player in the league? Why does he hurt his team at times?

So many questions about Rasheed Wallace, but one thing is certain. He is the answer to whether or not the Detroit Pistons will repeat as NBA Champions.

Next Jordan? Just Wade for Now

It’s not surprising that many people have become disenchanted with the sports world these days. They’re fed up with the ridiculously over-the-top salaries that athletes receive, fed up with athletes behaving as if they’re above the law, and fed up with their childish antics. Names like the NFL’s Randy Moss, the NBA’s Latrell Sprewell, and MLB’s Barry Bonds come to mind. But it’s time for everyone to relax. Dwyane Wade has arrived.

Injuries are killer

A few weeks ago I was salivating over the possibility of the Conference Finals matchups falling out like this: Spurs v. Suns and Heat v. Pistons.  Now that those series are all over, here’s what I have to say about them: eh…

Both series just left you wanting something more and it’s all because of injuries.

Miller made a franchise- city matter

Basketball is only a game, a simple game actually. Take a ball, put it in the hoop, repeat. The game doesn’t solve life’s problems. The game doesn’t stop a war or feed hungry children or give shelter to the homeless. It’s simply a game. It shouldn’t mean as much to so many people as it does.

Reginald Wayne Miller is just man who could put a ball in a hoop. He shouldn’t mean as much to a franchise, a city, a state as he does. He shouldn’t be this important, but he is.

AGE LIMIT IN THE NBA

A hot topic these days is the age that athletes are allowed to come into the NBA.  There are great points for both sides, all valid and both sides I can understand.  For me though, I have to side with having an age limit

A Touch of Class Erases Tarnished Image (For Now)

Despite all the controversy and bad blood that has been spilled throughout the season between the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons, both teams came together as one to say goodbye to an old friend Thursday night.

A Prodigy unlike any other

What is this world coming to?  Would you actually believe it if someone told you that a number one lottery pick in the 2006 NBA Draft is not considering the money, but an education?  Well, so far, that is what Greg Oden is considering, for now, yet this almost sounds too good to be true.  Who knows, maybe there are people in the world actually like this?

Taking care of business

Here’s hoping the NBA gives us what we want this time around.

I don’t want any upsets in the second round, and as weird as it sounds, I don’t even want any close games.   I just want the favored teams to advance so we get Detroit-Miami and Phoenix-San Antonio in the respective Conference Finals, and I don’t want anything to interfere with that outcome.
