Following one of the most boring trading deadlines of all time, here’s the MLB power rankings for week 17.

Please say it ain’t so
Rafael Palmeiro, the Baltimore Orioles’ first baseman and occasional designated hitter, has been suspended 10 days for his first offense of the league’s substance abuse policy.
Everyone has probably heard about this already and every sports writer in America has voiced their opinion whether it’s been in their newspaper, on the radio, or on some sports show. Well, I’m going to add my two cents in there since the Orioles are my favorite MLB team.
Commissioner For A Day
Bud Selig. Most baseball fans shake their head in disgust or recoil at the sound of this man’s name. Granted, he has made some changes for the game of baseball that should not have happened. But, he also has done some great things for the sport.
Selig has made changes that turned out both good and bad, that were loved and hated. But all his decisions have been criticized around baseball for years. This is where I tell you how the job of Commissioner of Major League Baseball should be done. The changes that I think should be made and the things that I think should stay the same.
MLB Power Rankings 27 July 2005
Here’s the power rankings after the MLB’s week 16. I missed last week so the rank in brackets is actually from two weeks ago (hence the Padres and Rangers dropping 11 spaces). Questions and comments are, as always, appreciated.
Defending my Generation – Matt Waters
One has to admire Bob Costas. Not only is he one of the foremost recognizable personalities from the world of sports journalism, he is without a doubt the most technically sound and proficient studio host to ever lay eyes on a teleprompter.
Hours after plans were revealed for the World Baseball Classic, a World Cup-style event that would feature 16 nations in tournament play, Gary Sheffield of the New York Yankees weighed in on the announcement.
Stay Home Kenny
Kenny Rogers created a media fire storm once he Hulk Hogan-ed little Larry Rodriguez. Only a week after this incident Rogers was selected by AL Manager Terry Francona to represent the American League in the All-Star Game. A lot has happen in the last week or so, and now lets take some time to figure out whether Rogers really should be playing in Detroit on July 12th.
It use to be that the All-Star break was a time to get your friends together and watch the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game. Today the All-Star break is about what players decided not to show up, who was snubbed, and how baseball can make more money. I miss the good old days and the ratings agree.
MLB mid-season report
It’s been a wonderful first half of the 2005 MLB Season, and unless you’re in the NL Central, or watch baseball in Tampa Bay, Kansas City or Denver, you’ve got something to look forward to this year.
Check out what we thought of each team:
The REAL All-Stars
As the mid-summer classic draws closer and the polls have closed for fans to cast their ballots, it’s time to look at the best players from the first half of the season. In this fantasy lineup, I chose players from both leagues to create my super team.
