Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer Saban’s at Alabama

So, Nick Saban’s at Alabama. People might call him a liar, a cheater, and everything else under the sun. I’m not going to rip on him, because his college coaching record, at 48-16, isn’t bad at all. He’s also won a National Championship in the toughest conference in the country, but now he’s going to a program still suffering from crippling NCAA recruiting sanctions only recently back to full strength.

So what can Saban can do to improve a program that’s doing its best to make Bear Bryant a distant memory?

The Top 5 Reasons You Can’t Blame Oklahoma For Losing The 2007 Fiesta Bowl

Okay. The Boise State Broncos versus the Oklahoma Sooners was the greatest game ever played. Isn’t funny how we forget about the Rose Bowl from last season? Some called it David versus Goliath. Others were saying if you want to run with the big dogs, well, here is your chance.

Final thoughts on 2006: Story of the year

As I await the New Year from the seclusion of the Colorado Rockies, without television or radio, although with wireless internet and my laptop, I figure that I might as well look for the story of the year.

I’ve heard George Mason’s run to the final four mentioned, I’ve heard Tiger’s resurgence, I’ve heard steroids in baseball, no steroids in baseball, and steroids in the Tour de France. But none of those are the story.

The Missing Link In Division 1A College Football

Yes. This is another article related to a playoff in division 1A college football. Division 1A college football is lacking a playoff, and that is a fact. I am not going to pitch my ideas about an 8 or 16 team playoff/tournament. I am not going to degrade the BCS.  Well, I might do this a little. I want to have a discussion about the word “playoff” and/or “tournament” and the idea of either term not being part of college football vocabulary.

Would The Playoff Really Work?

Most of the fans want a playoff in college football.  They hate the computers having so much weight.  It isn’t right that all of the other major sports (even college) have a playoff.  Why doesn’t Division 1A college football create some sort of playoff or tournament?  Well, go ahead and consider it.  Should only conference champs go to this “playoff”?  What about the mid-major schools?  Are they included also?  Isn’t this one of the main differences in college football?  Division 1A has teams that belong to two separate groups: the BCS and non-BCS.  Division 1AA does not have anything like this.  Doesn’t Division 1A have its BCS conference teams and Notre Dame, while the Division 1AA teams are all treated the same?  College football fans from all around want a playoff/tournament.  Why can’t this happen?

2007 BCS Bowl Preview

For all the attention that the BCS bowls get, it’s surprising how little is focused on the actual games. I’ve heard much more about proposed playoff systems that won’t happen then the games that will actually take place. And when people do predict the BCS games, it’s about 95% in favor of one team. This year, every BCS game but one features a heavy favorite. Can any of the underdogs win? Which team will surprise the most people? As we’ve seen countless times, great performance in a BCS bowl one year can lead to a national championship the next.

Feeling bad for Coker- a month later

It’s been more than a month since Miami both fired head coach Larry Coker and made him continue working for the school through the end of the year, and I disagree with the move more than ever now.

No, not for making him coach the bowl game against Nevada, but for firing him in the first place because of one bad season.

The BCS: Get off it’s back

Every year, without fail, the pundits rip the BCS. I have always felt this was unjustified, since the BCS does exactly what it was designed to do. Until a playoff is created (and that looks unlikely) the BCS is the best way to choose a national champion.
