The blind leading the blind; is it time for instant replay?

I’ve made mistakes before and while I’m not usually the first to admit it, I’m not the last. I thought Tom Brady might be a fluke after the Patriots’ first Super Bowl win. I thought Ken Griffey Jr. would persevere over his various (even limitless) injuries. I thought Tanya Harding couldn’t have played a role in clubbing Nancy Kerrigan. And maybe worst of all, I thought Ryan Leaf would make a good professional quarterback.

McGowan’s Running Diary: Opening Night- Pats vs. Colts

By Ryan McGowan

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2004, 8:04 PM: We’re live from Gillette Stadium in scenic Foxboro, Massachusetts.  Well, we’re not actually live from there, we’re live from my living room in the just-as-scenic Oak Square neighborhood in Boston.  But we can pretend we’re in the Big Razor tonight for opening night of the 2004 NFL season between the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots and last year’s AFC Championship finalists, the Indianapolis Colts.

The Week 1 Roundup: Lessons Learned

Opening day of the NFL season is probably the second best day in all of sports; number 1 being the first round of the NCAA tourney, which actually spans two days, but you know what I mean.  So, instead of doing my usual post-game Eagles analysis, I’m going to cover the entire week 1. I couldn’t watch every game but with Sunday Ticket and by the grace of God, I was able to watch a hell of a lot of football.

Jeter’s Still the Man

Derek Jeter has been one of the only reasons the Yankees have been winning lately–and he’s the reason they’ll keep winning in the playoffs.

Over the past few months, and in the last weeks especially, the Boston Red Sox have challenged the New York Yankees for the AL Division title that the Yankees have held since 1998. And in an atmosphere where every game is crucial, one Yankee, like so many times before, has proven to be a leader–a player who has put the team on his back and led them to victory when they needed it most: Derek Jeter.

Gladly pitying the poor Yankees

On the 18th of June, 1815, Napoleon Bonaparte’s great army fell victim to the combined forces of the Allied Armies at the Battle of Waterloo. In 1876, Lieutenant Colonel Custer lost his life at the hands of more than 10,000 Native Americans at the Battle of Little Big Horn. And a Greek force hidden in a large wooden horse once besieged the Trojan Army.

At Random: A Slanted View of the Week in Sports.

That’s right, it’s time once again to look back on the week that was in sports. Daniel Collins, host of “Sports Propaganda”, opines this week about Kobe, Deion, and the New York Yankees.

Terry Francona: give the man some love

A roller coaster ride–summary of Terry Francona’s first season with the Red Sox. Loaded with exciting spins, flips, corkscrews, and turned stomachs, the Sox have learned to weather the storm, and now are in prime position to overtake the Yankees in the AL East. It has been a long, stressful journey for Francona, but the fruits of his labor may be finally paying off, as his Red Sox sit only 2 ½ games behind first place for the first time in a very long time this year.

So lighten up Bostonians, give your man a break, he deserves it. I’m sure Francona won’t be trohwing away any Game 7 leads any time soon.
