Locks of the Week

Mile High: Welcome back! For Week 1 I feel the need to go with a safe pick. A few weeks in I will get a better vibe on things and will go for the not so obvious locks. This week I have to go with the Vikings at home (-4.5) over the Cowboys. The Vikes are exploding offensively this year (at least in preseason) and Culpepper is playing like he has something to prove. With Moe Williams and Onterrio Smith available, and a much improved defense, I think this is a no-brainer pick. Vinny may hit stride later in the year with Keyshawn, but Eddie George doesn’t scare anyone. Vikes win easily, although Dallas D is solid so I’d go for the under.

Guru Ganu:They are the champs, they have a great D, picked up a great RB and… did you know Elton John and Bob Kraft were “very good friends”? Hmmmm…here in New England, when we hear something like that we begin to wonder if the Pats owner likes to putt from the rough. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Nor is there anything wrong with taking the Patriots and giving the 3 1/2 points.

Mr. X: I’ll try not to pick the Eagles too much during their Super Bowl year but let me tell you something. The Giants are terrible. Awful. I mean putrid. The Eagles? Well Kearse, TO, Hugh and Trotter will all be so geared up to make a first impression that will last a lifetime that the Birds my be up 50-0 at halftime. Believe that. McNabb is looking to get the taste out of his mouth from the CAROLINA game, Westbrook is looking to prove he’s a #1 workhorse back. Reid is out to justify his new contract,Lito and Sheldon want to prove they are the real deal. Watch out. The Giants and their rickety old QB behind the worst offensive line in NFL history should be 17 point dogs this week. I see the Birds jumping out by a good deal at halftime and then letting the Giants score a couple of times late for a score of about 37-17. So with that, take the Eagles (-9) this week.

Vegas Vinny: The sexy pick this year (aside from Seattle winning the NFC) is the Houston Texans doing very well. Remember my motto: most experts are morons. So this week, I’m going to take the San Diego Chargers and the 4.5 points. I’m not saying the Bolts will be a good team this year but I see them having the sort of opening day that the Lions had last year, one that makes everyone scratch their head and scramble to pick up Chargers not named LaDanian for their Fantasy Football team.

all i get is a "not bad"? come on, i picked the CHARGERS, for chrissakes!  In an upset.  On the road!  I wish this were like survival locks so I could be set up to take a real team next week. 🙂

Typical NE.  Good enough to win, not good enough to cover.

Didn’t mean to insult the CHARGERS pick was sweet but last time I checked it was called “LOCK OF THE WEEK” and not “OBSCURE PICK THAT WILL COVER THAT YOU WOULD NEVER BET ON SO SEE HOW SMART I AM PICK OF THE WEEK”.

Sweet…

huh… I better change the name of picks then…

3 for 4 is indeed, not bad. And would be a pretty good payday at the sportsbook.

We’ll see if we can keep it up Week 2.
