Ever since Chris Cohan took over as owner of the Golden State Warriors, the team has strictly adhered to a kindly old fisherman’s rule: you can catch stars, but always be sure to throw ’em back. If you happen to be a fan of the team, you can probably recite the list of ex-Warrior stars faster than you can recall your own address. Precious few players are given long-term contracts around these parts, and even fewer live up to the expectations that come with their deals. This summer, Adonal Foyle and Derek Fisher each signed 6-year deals worth the equivalent of Master P’s bicuspids, which is no small chunk of change. Apparently the names Danny Fortson and Bimbo Coles mean nothing to the people running this franchise.
Last week was either a great week for the Sportscolumn crew or an easy week to pick. All favorites won. A couple of us (Milehigh, Vegas) picked the Colts in the upset and were summarily beat down. This week, we all agree on the winners, with the exception of Guru Ganu, who has had his brain turned to mush by either the cold weather in Boston or too much Sportscenter.

Indeed, a 3-pointer in the second quarter of a Vermont high school boy’s basketball game sealed the win for Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax, who defeated Milton 5-2. That’s right – five points to two. Bellows made two baskets while Milton made a grand total of one. No foul shots were taken.
I can’t think of too many things that would be sweeter than being a professional baseball player, but one of them would definitely be being a professional baseball player and living in the Caribbean paradise of Aruba.
Then again, if you believe Baltimore Orioles pitcher Sidney Ponson, maybe it’s not so sweet at all.
The Saga of one of the most colorful and controversial champions ever to grace the ring will be brought to the forefront of the boxing community when “Unforgivable Blackness” airs January 17 on PBS as part of a Ken Burns documentary depicting the life and times of Jack Johnson.
The name of Sammy Sosa has been a hot topic this off-season. He has been rumored to be on the way to the Mets and even the Nationals. Here are some reasons why Sammy should remain in Cubbie Blue.
“We are going to the Super Bowl, so don’t even doubt it,” injured Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens said yesterday. “I’ve never felt so confident in my entire career than how I felt this past Sunday. When I walked into that locker room and saw those guys – saw that as happy as they were that they knew they still had business to take care of – that let me know right there we’ll be in Jacksonville come Feb. 6. There is no doubt in my mind.
More Than Jordan’s Sidekick
With the retirement of thirty-nine year-old, Chicago Bulls star, Scottie Pippen, one might ask the question, “Where would Pippen be if it weren’t for Michael Jordan?” My answer to that question would simply be, “Where would Jordan be without Scottie Pippen?”

Sunny Days in Phoenix
Every sports fan in Phoenix is jumping for joy. No, not because the Cardinals didn’t get last in the NFC West, but because the Suns are the best team in the NBA.
This is the first time in recent memory that the dominant team in the NBA hasn’t had a physically dominating big man in the middle like Tim Duncan or Shaq. So how are the Suns keeping up a league-best 31-8 record? By running, running, running, and running some more.
