Confessions of a Kool Aid Drinker Week 8

I’d really hoped to be writing this week about the Royals State Championship. Of course, if that was the case, the article would have been up 36 hours ago. The hits keep on coming for the Royals as they are now on pace to lose a franchise record 114 games. Fans just spent the entire weekend watching, listening to, and loathing their counterparts from the East as they got to see up close how fun it must be to be a fan of a good team. But none of these things are on my mind this Monday because there is something more important at hand. The city of Kansas City, Missouri is gravely close to opening the door for the Royals to walk right out, and I’m not sure that’s a bad thing.

The Pride of the Farm System

For many years, thirteen to be exact, the Braves have arguably been the most consistent team in baseball. Thirteen consecutive division titles is a record that no team in any sport has matched. Many things go into such a feat. Luck, a Hall of Fame caliber manager, pitching coach, and general manager, and great players that have come and gone. But there is another key that does not get recognition, the farm system.

Walker deserves better

From what I’ve been reading lately, I’d think that Antoine Walker was the one who pretended to find a human finger in the chili from Wendy’s or who faked his own abduction to avoid his upcoming wedding. Assuming there was a gender change in both stories, at least.

Five Things I Hate About the Yankees

Confessions of a Kool Aid Drinker

May 30, 2005

Once again I face the bleak prospect of the best story about the Royals coming from the team they’re preparing to play. Yes, at 13-37, with a six game losing streak, and a managerial search that’s looking more doomed by the moment, happiness is no where to be found at Kauffman Stadium. Today, hitting Coach Jeff Pentland got the ax. Tomorrow, the hated Yankees come in to town. Speaking of hated, my ode to the Evil Empire:

In Case You Missed It

You may not have noticed, but on Monday night, 3000+ fans witnessed a new NCAA men’s tennis champion. The UCLA Bruins were crowned the 2005 champs, Monday at the Mitchell tennis complex at Texas A&M, in a ferocious battle that left opponent, and former champion Baylor dazed and confused.

The Beane irony

I wonder how Billy Beane will feel when he’s watching the MLB playoffs at home, with his Oakland A’s floundering to the deep, cold, piteous cellar of the AL West, after he single-handedly abolished any chance of his team making the playoffs when he traded away two of his most electrifying starters, thus entrusting his reputation with the less-than-proven likes of Rich Harden and Danny Haren.

Probably humiliated.

The Proof is in the Pudding

Barry Bonds knees are shot. Jason Giambi stinks. Home run output from major league baseball players is down this season as a whole. Coincidence? I think not. Answer? Steroids.
