A Change of Scenery

So maybe a change of scenery did help after all.  This is what has happened to the current Washington Nationals, who escaped from torture just months ago.  The city being referred to as one that brings about torture is none other than that of Montreal.  Let it be known that Montreal is not a bad city by any means.  It is just not the best place to have its own Major League Baseball team.  It falls into the same category as having a hockey team in the city of say Phoenix or Tampa Bay.  Oops, didn’t Tampa Bay win the Stanley Cup the last time hockey wasn’t in a lockout?

In June 2006 no one will care about America

Why would the rest of the world? Everyone will be watching the World Cup after all…

For many, the Olympics are nothing, the World Cup is everything. A country’s emotions all ride on the fortune of 11 players going out to do battle with the country on their chest (and thank God, without sponsorship).

Preview of The Belmont Stakes ’05

For those of you that watched the Preakness, you probably weren’t unsatisfied after watching that one. The race was close the whole way through keeping most people at the edge of their seats. Then at the last turn Afleet Alex, who was making his move, stumbled and gave a lot of bet holders a scare. Miraculously, Afleet Alex recovered himself and went past Scrappy T to win the Preakness. The Belmont Stakes may not have as many contenders, but is still shaping up to be a great race.

Wallace gives us more questions than answers

Why?

Why does he complain after nearly every call by a referee? Why does he collect more technical fouls than any other player in the league? Why does he hurt his team at times?

So many questions about Rasheed Wallace, but one thing is certain. He is the answer to whether or not the Detroit Pistons will repeat as NBA Champions.

Next Jordan? Just Wade for Now

It’s not surprising that many people have become disenchanted with the sports world these days. They’re fed up with the ridiculously over-the-top salaries that athletes receive, fed up with athletes behaving as if they’re above the law, and fed up with their childish antics. Names like the NFL’s Randy Moss, the NBA’s Latrell Sprewell, and MLB’s Barry Bonds come to mind. But it’s time for everyone to relax. Dwyane Wade has arrived.

Go Away Sox

I can’t take it anymore; I am almost losing my interest in watching baseball on national TV.  ESPN is out of control, as is Fox.  It seems every where you turn, its all about the Boston Freakin’ Red Sox.

Everyone jumped on the bandwagon last fall, everyone except me and the other millions of Yankee fans, but the Red Sox temporarily inspired a country and a city by breaking the all mighty Curse of the Bambino.  They also brought some much needed interest to the Fall Classic.  Those are all good things.  In my opinion, however, it should have ended there.

Injuries are killer

A few weeks ago I was salivating over the possibility of the Conference Finals matchups falling out like this: Spurs v. Suns and Heat v. Pistons.  Now that those series are all over, here’s what I have to say about them: eh…

Both series just left you wanting something more and it’s all because of injuries.

There is a New Era in Tennis: The Nadal Era

For the past few years, tennis has not gotten much attention and rightfully so. There hasn’t been the Pete Sampras or Andre Agassi matches that invigorated even the not-so-big tennis fan. I remember one of the last really good matches I saw was the Sampras-Agassi US Open final. Since then I haven’t seen a tennis match that glued me to my chair.
