Why A.J. Pierzynski is ALCS MVP

Each offseason, Major League Baseball general managers spend a considerable amount of time looking for the right players to complete their rosters. Big offseason acquisitions can inspire loads of excitement amongst a fan base. But sometimes it’s the low profile signings that can propel a team to October success. Case in point is the Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski. His signing filled out a gritty roster filled with enough character to get the White Sox to their first pennant since 1959.

NFL Power Rankings Week 6 – October 18 2005

Another confusing week in the NFL. Indy remains at #1 with a decisive victory over the Rams but after that, it’s mostly a crapshoot. Is Tampa Bay really a top 5 team? How do you factor in the loss of Brian Griese? Does Pittsburg losing without Roethlisberger mean anything? Here are your power rankings for Week 6.

Help Wanted

Angels will crash and burn

As I thought about ideas for what would be my debut column I thought to myself the worst thing I could do is write about something that every other wannabe and legit sports writer has been writing about over the last few days.  I thought long and hard about this and decided to write about it anyway.  Mainly because it’s the most talked about topic in sports and because I believe this will be the demise of the Angels (I’ll eat crow here if the Angels pull it out).

The Knicks get big- but will they bust?

Since the New York Knicks traded Patrick Ewing in September of 2000, they have been an undersized team. They have tried to get by at center with the likes of Kurt Thomas, Luc Longley and Marcus Camby. However, this past off season General Manager Isiah Thomas made numerous moves to add size. Will this collection of big men find enough minutes and be able to work together?

The Long Season Ahead

The preseason hype surrounding the Baltimore Ravens was amazing.  Many respected analysts even had the Ravens going to the Super Bowl.  As a result of Jim Fassel being promoted to Offensive Coordinator, and Derrick Mason being brought in as a #1 receiver, the Ravens were supposed to put up points this season.  However, after Week 5, the season may officially be over.
