Sportscolumn is Yahoo’s Pick of the Day

We are happy to announce that Sportscolumn.com has been chosen Yahoo’s Pick of the Day. Sportscolumn has been around for years but the latest incarnation was only launched a month ago. Yet, we have had such excellent contributions from our community in that short span of time that the site was recognized by the Yahoo editors for the award.

I want to welcome all the new members we’ve had lately and encourage them to start contributing, whether it’s an article, voting on the articles in the moderation queue, or just adding your comments to existing columns. Your participation will make this a better site for everyone.

Welcome to the Revolution!

Why am I calling this The Revolution?  Because Sportscolumn.com was built to tear down all the pre-established rules of what sports journalism should be.  As an avid (and rabid) sports fan, I just can’t get enough.  I love the commentary. I love the highlights.  I love the debates on sports talk radio.  But what bothered me was that the people who deliver the commentary, who direct the talk on sports radio, who write all the columns we read, seldom know any more than die-hard knowledgeable fans.   In fact they’re often just flat out wrong.

The Revolution doesn’t want to hear anymore from “professional” columnists who seem intent on only tallying up word counts and writing columns so ludicrous as to beg to be emailed around in disbelief.  Sportscolumn knows that there are thousands of “amateur” sportswriters out there that could build a better following than any of these nationally known hacks.
