Our Look At An Eventful Weekend

By Trevor Freeman

Treeemendous Saturday.  I know there is a God and that he loves us when he provides a weekend like this past one.  Is there a more underrated happening than when St. Patrick’s Day and the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament link up?  Barrooms filled with people rallying behind a team like Xavier as they try to knock off Ohio State.  Loud roars each time a big shot puts a game into overtime.  Maybe this year I did not get the full eight hour St. Patty’s experience, but the afternoon I spent barhopping reminded me of why this day is New York’s version of Mardi Gras.

Breaking Down The March Madness

by Trevor Freeman

Chicken Wings.  Cinderellas.  Yuengling.  Bracket Busters.  Nachos.  Harold Arcenaux.  Budweiser.  Sweet 16.  Jalapeno Poppers.  Bryce Drew.  Chicken Fingers.  Elite Eight.  Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.  Bo Kimble.  Mozzarella Sticks.  $20 a bracket, winner take all.  Jack Daniels.  Final Four.  Do you feel it?  Is it in your blood yet?  Is your body ready for the monthlong binge that is the greatest sporting event on the planet?  Are you ready for the Madness?

Is That Really Your "Top Ten Centers List"?

By Trevor Freeman

So I finish up my weekly podcasts yesterday and I’m settling in to watch a little Wright State versus Butler.  Because there was a berth into the NCAA Tournament at stake, I decided to honor the moment with a Yuengling.  The conversation in my head where I convinced myself that this game was worth drinking for is a different story for a better time.  I boot up my e-mail and in it I find this gem from my friend LeAndre…..

Looking Back On A March Story

by Trevor Freeman

I am writing this article because every March I plug Hank Gathers’ name into the Yahoo search engine to see what articles come up.  And every time I open up an old article, I cannot believe it has really been seventeen years since arguably the biggest tragedy in the history of college sports spawned one of its most remarkable stories.

Bringing Home The Big One

by Trevor Freeman

It is 10:05 P.M. and I’m drunk.  I’m real drunk.  I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t banking on grammar and spell check to step it up a notch right now.  I got home at 5:30 and all I’ve been doing is rifling Yuengling. The person who said drinking never cured your problems has never tasted the beautiful amber ale that only Pottsville, Pennsylvania can produce.

Breaking Down The American League

by Trevor Freeman

For the first time in four months, I am ready to talk about baseball again.  The Oakland A’s and I had to take a little break from each other as I was beginning to question the fairness of life after the Magglio Ordonez walk-off.  Luckily I was able to immerse myself in a 49er renaissance and preparation for March Madness.  If you discount the Ken Macha baseball card hanging off the dartboard in my office and the Magglio Ordonez baseball card which was used for a brief three-day stretch as a urinal bullseye then for the most part I have responded to the loss in a mature fashion.

Our Look At The Inequality In Media Treatment Between Andrea Bargnani And Adam Morrison

by Trevor Freeman

It is a league that is desperate to get back the prestige it had in the 1980s and early 1990s.  Not only has it fallen behind its “super” cousin but it must be “maddening” to watch its younger brother be the version more preferred. In a series of articles last year, we dissected the NBA Draft and wondered aloud why NBA General Managers consistently avoided the common sense approach of drafting the best collegiate players available. That a basketball version of Billy Beane could walk into the league right now and be the new Red Auerbach. Today, we take a look at the words of some of the journalists covering the game and more importantly their bias against last season’s college superstar, Adam Morrison, and their tendency to push the first overall pick, Andrea Bargnani.

Our NCAA Midseason Update And Awards

by Trevor Freeman

There are two sets of college basketball fans.  There are the diehards who tune in for the full season and there are those who jump in feet first immediately after football season ends so they can get their love of the game back…….or so they can do an ample amount of research before filling out their NCAA Tournament brackets.  Many purists dislike this second group, but I for one think they provide the NCAA Tournament with the gusto it needs to remain with the Super Bowl as one of the two greatest sporting events on the planet (for those of you who just said, “Wait a second what about the World Cup”…feel free to board a Concorde and fly back to France).

When It Comes To Comparing The NBA and NCAA…..There’s No Comparison

by Trevor Freeman

So I was sitting at my holiday party conversing with my colleagues on a variety of important issues ranging from the NFL playoffs to Jenn Sterger’s ta-tas to “Rocky Balboa”.  It was at the end of the conversation when the debate between the NBA and college hoops began.  Of course I led the majority in putting forth reasons as to why the NBA is Selma Blair to the NCAA’s Salma Hayek.  It was midway through my argument when I realized, “Trevor….the 25 reasons you listed two years ago just isn’t good enough…..you need to up the ante”.  Up the ante I have as we updated our list and extended it to a full 37 reasons.  That’s right.  Buckle your seat belts and enjoy yourselves as we are about to breakdown why the NCAA trumps the NBA.

Applying Common Sense To The NBA Draft-Part III "The Fazekas Affair"

“The two sides are, on the one hand, the old scouts and, on the other, Billy Beane. The old scouts are like a Greek chorus, it is their job to underscore the eternal themes of baseball. The eternal themes are precisely what Billy Beane wants to exploit for profit – by ignoring them.”
-Michael Lewis in “Moneyball”
