NFL.COM: Fraud at the Polls!

…It was midday on Thursday afternoon September 23rd, 2004. My day was rather common: work, lunch, time spent on NFL web sites between projects. I had been intrigued all week by the NFL.COM’s Rookie of the week voting. Until I realized that it means absolutely nothing and the NFL just tells us who we voted for…Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

At 10:41 am on 9/23/04 it appeared JR REED had an insurmountable lead in the ROOKIE of the WEEK voting…he did…but the NFL doesn’t care…..and now for the incriminating evidence.

Let me start by saying that I had been extremely suspicious in week 1 when DONOVAN MCNABB had a 5% lead in the NFL.COM QB of the week voting (Where users “SUPPOSEDLY” vote for the top QB and RB each week) on Thursday morning 9/16, only to have Culpepper be declared the winner later that day. I assumed at the time that I wasn’t paying attention and Culpepper simply won the vote. Now I know better.

The voting for the ROOKIE of the WEEK on NFL.COM started on Tuesday morning 9/21/04. I am going to assume approximately 9am for statistical purposes.

As of approximately 11am on Thursday morning with the polls assumingly to close at 1pm or so, JR REED had a basically insurmountable lead.

THE MATH

As of 11 am on 9/23 77,092 people had wasted their time and voted on the NFL rookie of the week vote for 9/21.

That means that over the course of the past 50 hours, from 9am on 9/21 when the voting began to 11am on 9/23, the votes had been broken down as follows:

* So it appears that in the final two hours of voting that Roy Williams all of a sudden got 2,600+ votes an hour and JR REED received no votes whatsoever. Pretty astounding! (Sarcasm)

Here is the URL I saved because I had been suspicious how DONOVAN MCNABB lost the player of the week to CULPEPPER in week 1

Where are the Results?

The NFL gladly posted the AIR/GROUND results for this week because the voting margin was so clear but…

NFL Gladly posted the voting results for the AIR/GROUND winners this week because the results were acceptable to them

…but on the ROOKIE of the week voting they just named ROY WILLIAMS the winner and don’t show us any voting detail?

Where do we live, IRAQ? Our vote means nothing and the NFL just tells who we voted for?

Speak Up

I’ll admit. Roy Williams was the deserving winner of the ROOKIE of the WEEK this week. He really was. JR REED was huge for the BIRDS but he was by no means the ROOKIE of the WEEK.

That doesn’t matter. What matters is the NFL and NFL.COM are telling the public that we are voting for these awards when ultimately some NFL EXEC steps in and says who the winner is. It’s a disgrace and it’s a lie.

I would recommend that you let them know what you think of this scam…

FROM DAVID SPADARO (EAGLE Employee) Here’s the explanation we received from the league. We questioned them on it and are not happy…

There was a glitch in the voting process. The calculations visible to NFL.com users were inaccurate. When the data was audited, Detroit WR Roy Williams had the most votes. The accounting process has since been fixed.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have cause on your end. Please let me know if you have additional questions
