2009 NFL Week 6 Picks and Podcast

There should be some slightly better games this weekend despite some double digit spread laughers. Hey, they can’t make the Browns play the Bills again, right? Cleveland beating Buffalo 6-3 was the nadir of the young football season. I feel sorry for anyone who had to watch that. The featured games this week are Baltimore @ Minnesota, NY Giants @ New Orleans, Arizona @ Seattle, and Denver @ San Diego.

Locks of the Week

Vegas Vinny: (3-2, Balance =$895) The Eagles might not be a great team but they do know how to beat up the weakest kid in the classroom and then point at them and say “Hah Hah!” Oakland (despite the attitude that they try to project) might be the weakest of the bunch that’s on the Eagles schedule. Normally I’d be worried about a 14 point spread and I never bet on the Eagles (homerism and gambling mix about as well as a Raiders fan and reading) but then I think about the passing prowesss of Jamarcus Russell and I feel a lot better. He might be the worst QB pick since Ryan Leaf. Maybe even worse.

The Raiders won’t be able to run the ball against the Eagles quick outside linebackers and they won’t be able to run up the middle against the two DTs, Patterson and Bunkley. And if the Raiders are forced to chuck it up, expect Samuel and Sheldon Brown to have a field day. I’ll put $55 to win $50 on the Eagles (-14).

BostonMac: (4-1, Balance = $1,245) Apparently we’re all going with homer locks this week. The Titans are oh-for-the-season, and the Pats are coming off a disappointing loss against a team they never play well against. They’re back at home, where they recently soundly defeated both Atlanta and Baltimore, teams that are a lot better than Tennessee. And now the desperation factor has passed for the Titans; their season is over, and desperation doesn’t see any difference in 1-5 or 0-6. I think NEW ENGLAND (-9) easily covers the spread and wins by two touchdowns. Will we see Vince Young this week? God I hope so.

RJ: (1-4, Balance = $830) I love a good theme on the show, whether it be hate crimes, sex crimes or, in this case, blatant homerism. Since Vin and Ryan have decided to play the xenophobia card and pick their locals, I’ll jump on my hometown SIX-TIME SUPERBOWL CHAMPS (intentionally capitalized to remind all of you) to beat their seemingly forever tepid rivals. The cool kids are doing it. Pittsburgh (-14) over Cleveland, let’s say 64-13 to break their all-time record for points in a game.

Uh oh…woke up from an afternoon nap and was dreaming about watching the games and they were flashing the scores:

Philadelphia 51
Oakland 33

New England 48
Buffalo 27
(It was a dream so I don;t have a lot of control over accuracy but the Pats were covering)

and of course:

Cleveland 3
Pittsburgh 0

The Saints look absolutely unstoppable.

(Cue the national media criticizing Sean Payton for running up the score in 4, 3, 2, 1… oh wait, that would never happen? Sorry.)

Nope. 58 unanswered as soon as they switched to Jets-Bills. VY fumbled the snap on the potential game-winning 2PC.
