Locks of the Week

[Editor’s Note: This year, we’re making the Locks of the Week a little more interesting as we have a side bet amongst the four experts. Vegas Vinny: Remember the week 2 classic between the Broncos and the Chargers? Well, if that game proved anything, it was that the Broncos and Chargers are essentially the same team: great offense, terrible defense. Remember last week when the Chargers absolutely destroyed the Patriots? You see where I’m going here. The Broncos play the Patriots really well no matter the venue. And this year, they are looking to put an ass-kicking on the Patsies for a national audience and establish themselves as a legit AFC contender (and erase the awful taste of the loss to the Chiefs and Jaguars).

The Broncos haven’t covered a spread this year since the week 1 trouncing of Oakland. Look for them to get off that schneid with a drubbing of the Patriots. $110 on the Broncos (-3) to win $100. (Balance= $1035)

BostonMac: After last week’s ass-kicking of the Ravens, the Colts offense is finally locked in. Peyton Manning and his receivers pretty much treated the first four games as the preseason, which made last week Week One of the regular season in Peyton-time. For the first time all season, the Colts offense has finally found its rhythm and has seen the rejuvenation of Marvin Harrison, vindicating fantasy owners everywhere who took a flyer on him after an injury-plagued 2007. With all of Aaron Rodgers’ inconsistencies, it’s hard to believe that Vegas is only giving them one point. The Colts will win, and will win big. I love this game with only the one point spread, so I’m going to put $110 to win $100 on the COLTS (-1) on the road against the Pack.
(Balance = $1150)

Trevor F: I like the Panthers at home to cover against the Saints. The line is only
three points which indicates that Vegas thinks the two teams are equal but
Carolina gets the edge for being at home. I don’t think the two teams are
equal. Carolina has a solid defense and enough on offense to win a game
like this 27-21. I’m taking the Panthers (-3). $55 to win $50.
(Balance = $1255)

RJ: I love a lot of the big underdogs to cover this week, like Cleveland, the ‘Niners and the Bengals, but I’ll cop out and take a pick ’em and go with the San Diego Chargers to beat the Bills at the Ralph. I’ve been burned by saying this countless times, but the Chargers
look like they are “back on track,” whatever that really means. The Bills have had an extra week to prepare with the bye, but Trent Edwards took a really hard hit in Arizona two weeks ago and I’m not sure if he’ll be a hundred percent. Phillip Rivers is the hottest quarterback in the NFL this side of Drew Brees, so in a pick ’em, I’ll stay with that matchup. And if J.P Losman plays, then it’s game, set match San Diego. I’ll stay classy and take the Chargers (+1) to win. If I lose another $110, then you go fuck yourself San Diego. (Balance = $715)
