After a very respectable week 1, we’re back with the 2007 NFL Week 2 Picks. Trevor, Ryan and RJ all went 10-6 last week. Vegas Vinny went 11-5 but lost his Lock of the Week because of the idiot Eagles special teams.

[Editor’s Note: This year, we’re making the Locks of the Week a little more interesting as we have a side bet amongst the four experts. Vegas Vinny: Two games jump out at me this week. The first is the Cincinnati Bengals over the Cleveland Browns. I know the Brownies are 7 pt underdogs at home but that atmosphere is going to be insane… against the Browns. They’ll be calling for Brady Quinn before the start of the game. And seeing what they did to Charlie Frye (or perhaps they did him a favor), Derek Anderson will be under the gun from the get go. On the other side of the ball, does anyone think the Browns can do to the Bengals what the Ravens did? No chance. Palmer, Housh, 85, start em all on your fantasy teams.

The second game is even more of a head scratcher from the Vegas oddsmakers. How could they possibly make the Bucs only 3.5 pt underdogs against the Saints. Sure the Saints looked like dog crap against the Colts but that was a Thursday night celebration for the Super Bowl champs. Even though the Saints have nobody in their division to contend with, they know that going 0-2 will put a huge crimp in their HFA plans. As for the actual Xs and Os, the Bucs couldn’t stop the run in Seattle and couldn’t muster anything on offense either. If you call both defenses a wash, then you have Brees/Bush/McAllister vs Garcia/Cadillac/Pittman… who would you take? I know it’s cliche but the Saints pounding it up the middle will open up the pass game later on in the game for Colston, Henderson, and even Reggie Bush. Is that worth 3.5 pts? You betcha. So I’m putting $110 to win $100 on the Saints (-3.5). And if you like to gamble, look at my first paragraph and think parlay. (Balance = $945)

BostonMac: Arizona (+3) vs Seattle. Week #2 and the Seahawks have been involved in both my locks of the week, albeit for completely different reasons. Last week I was not impressed with the lackluster way that the Hawks disposed of the Bucs in Seattle. Sure they covered and made me my $50, but it seemed to be the harbinger of another season of decline in the Northwest. Now they have to head down to Glendale AZ to take on the up-and-coming Cardinals, who have a multitude of weapons and can’t afford to start the season 0-2. I always like to take a home ‘dog, especially when I am picking them to win straight up. Take the points and take the Cardinals to knock off the Seahawks. (Balance = $1050)

Trevor F: If anybody hasn’t noticed we are really approaching rarefied air with the
Tennessee Titans. I did a little research and the Titans entering this
week are a heroic 6-1 against the spread over the last 7 games including a
very easy cover last week against Jacksonville (many thanks to the people
in Vegas for that line, we may not see a surer bet for the rest of the
season). Why do I bring this up? Because the Titans are getting 7 points
at home against Indianapolis this weekend.

If you were going to put together a team that could beat Indianapolis you
would want them to be a power running team that could sustain long drives,
a solid defense would of course be necessary, and most of all you would
want that team to have a home run hitter that could make a play down the
stretch of a game. That describes Tennessee perfectly. The Titans rang
up 282 yards rushing against a solid Jacksonville defense and stifled them
offensively. They have Vince Young and I think he will rebound from his
off week last week. Most of all, everybody and I mean everybody seems to
be discounting the Titans. Vegas had them as 6 point dogs last week.
Most power polls don’t list them in their top ten. Tennessee is now 10-4
when Vince Young starts and they go to 11-4 by pulling off the shocker of
the week. $55 on the Titans (+7) to get $50.
(Balance = $1050)

RJ Warner: My brief flirtation with the Bucs as a possible sleeper in the NFC is officially over after one week and one embarrassing Super Upset Special pick. The Saints, on the other hand, embarrased themselves against the Colts on national television. It’s tough playing back-to-back road games, but this is Tampa Bay, a.k.a “Cleveland South.” Look for New Orleans (-3) to bounce back huge this week. (Balance = $1050)
