Locks of the Week

Vegas Vinny: Ok folks, I’m back on track with my Vikings over Detroit pick last week but they sure made me sweat it out. Luckily, Detroit found a way to lose and to lose big. I usually prefer to take a team and give the points but this week a line jumped out at me that was way too tempting. While I fully expect the Steelers to win at home against the Damon Huard lead Chiefs (or is it Brock? Koy? Ty?), I think they win based solely on desperation. If the Steelers lose, they are done. Hell, they might already be done. Has a defending Super Bowl champion ever been knocked out of the division race so early?

In any case, the Chiefs are statistically better than the Steelers in every single category except rushing defense. For the Steelers to win this game they are going to have to go to Willie Parker early and often. The Chiefs meanwhile will count on Larry Johnson, expected to be back from a neck injury. Grind it out boring football means this comes down to a field goal and course knowledge by Jeff Reed. No way the Steelers win by more than 7. I’ll put $55 on the Chiefs (+7) to win $50. (Balance = $935)

BostonMac: I realize that the last time the Redskins played a terrible team, Mark Brunell set an NFL record against the hapless Texans. However, I don’t think the Redskins are very good (even at home) which leads me to wonder how the hell they are giving 10 points to anyone, let alone a team that almost knocked off a bored Indianapolis in the dome last week. While I am way too much of a sally to take Tennessee to win outright, I’m willing to wager that Vince Young can run around enough and out-athleticize (is that a word?) the Skins defense to keep it close. I’ll put $55 to win $50 on TENNESSEE (+10) to cover. (Balance = $985)

Trevor F: I’m going to take the Seattle Seahawks and give the three points on the road. The Hawks are coming off a bye week and should be pretty steamed about the beating they took in Chicago. St. Louis is the most overrated team in football. Other than a Week One win against a Denver team that always starts slow, they have beaten nobody of significance. They made Alex Smith look like a cross between Joe Montana and John
Elway in their loss to San Francisco which has to have Matt Hasselbeck licking his chops. Seattle wins and they win big. $55 on Seattle (-3.5) to win $50. (Balance = $1040)

RJ Warner: I like the Falcons (-3) over the Giants in Atlanta. The Giants think they got back on track last week against the Redskins, but I like the Falcons coming off the bye week at home. The Falcons, despite that loss in New Orleans (the ‘85 Bears, ‘72 Dolphins or ‘03 Patriots would not have won that game), have been solid this year while the Giants have been all over the place. Vegas is giving New York a little too much love and making this essentially a pick ‘em game. I wholeheartedly – or as much heart as my last-place ass can muster – disagree. The Falcons are the real deal while the Giants look like a sloppy, unfocused team that will barely sniff .500 this year. They should win by more than a touchdown and I got 55 bucks on it (to win 50). (Balance = $975)

    Looks………….. like an interesting week.

  2. RJ Warner | Oct 10, 2006 | Reply

I’m thinking more of the same.. a lot of these favorites look pretty good.

  3. Vin | Oct 10, 2006 | Reply

favorites can’t go 14-0 again hell there has to be a couple upsets this week.

But you can read my picks to figure out which ones…..

    I’m the king, RJ!  KING!

  4. jschissl81 | Oct 10, 2006 | Reply

Upsets That could be an upset, if Houstons D steps up. Carr, Moulds, Johnson playing real good so far this  season…

Tenn over Washington, Never know with the skins….

Miami gets first win over Jets, Harrington looked better than Culpepper, finally got ball to McMichael….

Maybe Detroit over Buffalo pending Roy Williams…..

    What Yal Thinking?

  5. XXXNINJA24 | Oct 10, 2006 | Reply

Damn…………. ….. you have some pretty interesting points, but I dont think so about Miami over Jets. Pennington has some good reliable weapons to work with, plus it’s in new york, and Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor are not buddies anymore, they do not like one another.

  6. XXXNINJA24 | Oct 10, 2006 | Reply

Also……………….. Hellllll nooooooooo Houston over Dallas I’m not sure about that one either.

  7. Vin | Oct 10, 2006 | Reply

Miami over the Jets is a possibility I don’t think the Texans will upset the Cowboys.  Especially not after the Cowboys lost last week.  (Oh did I mention that the Eagles beat them?) Parcells will have them ready to play and win.  If they lose to the Texans, the NFC East favorite’s season is over.

  8. XXXNINJA24 | Oct 10, 2006 | Reply

Man…….. ….. i heard that about Dallas. But do you really think Miami has a chance going into New York and pulling off a win?

  9. Tokar | Oct 11, 2006 | Reply

Vinny Vinny and I are the best pickers in my spreadsheet after 5 weeks.

One minor slip-up by Vinny this week allowed me to tie Vinny for the lead at 58-16…

I went 14-0, Vinny went 13-1…hahahahaha.  Well, thats what you get when you pick all the favorites and the favorites win…oh well.

  10. jschissl81 | Oct 11, 2006 | Reply

Upsets All Favorites Can’t Win, So We’ll See….

  11. Vin | Oct 11, 2006 | Reply

stupid Redskins I thought after two weeks of stellar offense they could go to the Meadowlands and knock off a reeling Giants team…

  12. XXXNINJA24 | Oct 11, 2006 | Reply

ok Ok, Ok, Ok, I know this site is swamped with all you Philly fans, But you think they will destroy the Saints This week??????? Reggie Bush is coming off his first TD, it’s in NO, and they look amped up. What do you guys think????

  13. dmanderek24 | Oct 11, 2006 | Reply

Philly!! I need need need Philly to cover this week…it’s basically my lock.

  14. Vin | Oct 11, 2006 | Reply

I wouldnt count on it. could be a let down game for the Eagles.  The Cowboys game was a big game for us.  You remember we won that one right?

Anyway… I think the Eagles will win but line is 3.5?  hmmm…. not a bad bet but I wouldnt go LOCK on it.

  15. dmanderek24 | Oct 11, 2006 | Reply

Eagles won?? Naw…I don’t remember that..I think the Cowboys had a bye week last week, right?
Anyway…I need to hit a parlay this week..that’d be nice

  16. Vin | Oct 12, 2006 | Reply

  19. XXXNINJA24 | Oct 12, 2006 | Reply

sorry ……………. Sorry……….. i had just caught myself are the bills really favored over the lions in detroit?

  20. Vin | Oct 12, 2006 | Reply

barely the bills are 1 pt favorites.

  21. XXXNINJA24 | Oct 12, 2006 | Reply

WELL Damn brother ther were a lot of crazy picks like the Rams game and the NO game, but you know i’ll stick with the experts advice philly over NO.

  22. Jackson Govatos | Oct 12, 2006 | Reply

picks I’ve got to catch you sometime Vin.

As far as the upsets go, Carolina over Baltimore and St. Louis over Seattle are pretty good bets. And you never know how the Giants or Falcons will perform.

  23. Vin | Oct 12, 2006 | Reply

don’t think so I think Carolina over Ravens might be an upset but I have to agree with Trevor that Seattle over the Rams is a virtual lock.

  24. JDWC | Oct 13, 2006 | Reply

Shameless homer? You tell me! Niners over Chargers this week. Watch and learn boys.

  25. dmanderek24 | Oct 13, 2006 | Reply

oh boy… I think the Niners are starting to rot your brain…or your heart…my Cowboys do it to me from time to time…like last week for example!!
I’m scared of the Niners against the spread this week…but Chargers DEF win this one!

  26. XXXNINJA24 | Oct 13, 2006 | Reply

Yes Sir    The Panthers Ravens game looks like a close one pretty tough pick. Good O vs. a Great D. Baltimore has the crowd advantage though.

Where is that Eagles’ Fan Pissing Picture? Can you post that link or the picture?  And this week’s Poor Man’s PTI was hilarious.  But please cut down on the cursing (say F instead of Fuck please) because I listen to it at work.  And I work in a bank.  Again, both podcasts this week was hilarious.
