NFL Week 10 Picks November 13 2005

Another great week for the Sportscolumn crew as we averaged 11.5 games right last week. However, last week was a very easy week to pick games. The folks over at ESPN got about 11.5 right as well. We agree on most picks this week. Hopefully, there will be some upsets just so the games are worth watching. Sure, we like being right, but we’d rather be entertained on Sundays.

Locks of the Week

Vegas Vinny: Why can’t my Locks cover? It’s as if they just stop playing decent defense in the 4th quarter. Well, I’m going the other way this week. I’m going to take Houston (+18) and the points. This is going against the grain as Indy usually covers when playing against Houston, even if it’s a large spread. However 18 points is way too much considering that Indy is coming off an emotional game versus the Patriots. On top of that, they have Cinci next week. I’m thinking of a Indy letdown that allows Houston to cover.

Teri Berg: I can’t believe this opened at even odds, and now the ‘Skins are at -1. Washington convincingly beat Philly last week, and other than the game they didn’t show up for vs. the Giants, they’ve played good, solid ball all season. Tampa Bay, though, is a total fraud without Cadillac Williams — who’s lost some serious luster since Week 5. The Bucs aren’t getting any better on offense with Simms under center and Pittman doubling with Williams in the back field. Unfortunately, as the season moves on their defense is showing signs of weakness against better teams too. It would be nice to see Washington’s defense gel against the run, though — doesn’t look like LaVar Arrington is shoring up that weakness yet. But the ‘Skins’ offensive weapons far outshine what TB has on the field, and I think Washington (-1) goes into the Pirates Cove and takes this by a TD or more.

BostonMac: Fantasy owners around the world should have a moment of silence for Priest Holmes, who was placed on injured reserve this week with a spinal injury. As of this writing, Holmes was contemplating announcing his retirement on Thursday because of his doctors’ worries about possible paralysis. Holmes will always be remembered as a historic fantasy player, putting up numbers like he was on All-American mode while everybody else was stuck at the Freshman level. This week, I think the Chiefs rally for their teammate against Buffalo. Larry Johnson picks up the slack (after putting up some great numbers last week for my own fantasy team), and even though KC’s defense is suspect, their offense scores a ton of points to outscore the mediocre Bills. I am taking KANSAS CITY (+2.5) on the road.

Trevor F:
I’m going to lay the three points and take the New England Patriots this week. This is a HUGE game for the defending Super Bowl Champions. Should they lose
to Miami and fall under .500, they may miss the playoffs. Tom Brady just questioned his team’s character on the radio. The Pats just lost “Big Dog in the Yard” status on Monday night. They have to bounce back this week and they will. Patriots (-3).

Pod I just listened to the podcast and it was very entertaining.  Just a couple errors I’d like to point.  Somebody on the podcast picked the Bills but it says in the column everyone picked the Chiefs.  Also the Bills play in Ralph Wilson Stadium, no longer Rich Stadium.  I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the name change.

thanks I made the correction.  I guess trevor changed his mind from the time he emailed me the picks to the podcast.

Thanks for the compliment on the podcast. Always appreciated.

Locks For the record, I absolutely suck at picking locks of the week.  Larry Johnson and Trent Green, how about getting in the f-ing end zone????

Now it looks like Trevor is going to overtake my lead in the overall records.  It’s time for the BostonMac picks machine to get back up and cranking.

I was sweating out the Indy-Houston game Thank god Tony Dungy has some class (unlike that son of a bitch Mike Shanahan) and didn’t run up the score.

KC QB changes name to Trent Blue I’ve never seen a QB miss an injured left tackle so bad as Trent Green misses Wille Roaf. Jesus. And can someone please give LJ some blocking lessons, please?

Okay, Spiccoli, do your little Chad Johnson dance for the Buffalo defense! Ya gotta hand it to ’em — they backed up their stats this week.

Chad Johnson Speaking of Chad, I will be predicting that Chad will be performing the Riverdance next week in a Cincinnati Bengals victory over the Colts.

Bengals Trevor I might be with you on the Bengals pick.  Coming off the bye week, couldn’t be facing the Colts at a better time for them.

Colts-Cincy pick While Trevor’s spicy pick of Cincy possibly upsetting the Colts doesn’t strike me as nearly as warped as his early-season fixation on how good the Niners “REALLY” were, I still have my doubts.

Granted, Cincy’s way better than last season, and may make the playoffs this year. But the Colts are MUCH better this season, and they’re trying to get over a higher-level hump than just making the playoffs — and look strong enough to make it to Detroit. Cincy doesn’t look THAT strong yet, especially not after having been sucker punched by both Jax and Pittsburgh.

Drew Bledsoe for me to beat you this week, Drew Bledsoe has to score 33 fantasty points on your beloved eagles :). Why don’t you mark me with a L.
