Go Away Sox

I can’t take it anymore; I am almost losing my interest in watching baseball on national TV.  ESPN is out of control, as is Fox.  It seems every where you turn, its all about the Boston Freakin’ Red Sox.

Everyone jumped on the bandwagon last fall, everyone except me and the other millions of Yankee fans, but the Red Sox temporarily inspired a country and a city by breaking the all mighty Curse of the Bambino.  They also brought some much needed interest to the Fall Classic.  Those are all good things.  In my opinion, however, it should have ended there.
If I see Johnny Damon on TV once more with a new hairdo, I may vomit.  I hate Johnny Damon, despise him actually.  Damon, along with Varitek, Bellhorn, Arroyo, Foulke, Millar, Ortiz, basically makes up the ALL-TIME OVERRATED TEAM.  The only player on the roster that I consider to be a great player is Manny Ramirez.  That is all.  Pedro was great, but as far as the current roster, Ramirez is it.

I know what you are saying, they pulled off the impossible, broke the curse, bla bla.  Who really gives a damn?  I don’t.  With exception to this season, where he is hitting the ball extremely well, Johnny Damon has hit .300 twice in his career, he has hit 20 homeruns only once, and has stolen 40 bases only once.  He has respectable numbers, don’t get me wrong, but not numbers of a superstar, not even close, and sadly enough, he is considered to be a superstar.  Damon is basically putting up the same numbers he did ten years ago in Kansas City, when no one knew who the hell he was.  He is the face of the Red Sox, and it truly is a joke and a mockery to what was once a great franchise.  The Splendid Splinter is probably rolling over about now.

In addition to Damon, Curt Schilling is an absolute moron.  I don’t give a damn how hurt an ankle is, when you’re the ace of your staff, you pitch in the World Series.  Unless you absolutely cannot walk, you pitch, there should be no questions asked.  People play hurt everyday, especially in the postseason.  Schilling is just the only media hound to make a big deal of it.  Media hound is a great way to describe Schilling.  I can almost guarantee you there were at least two other Red Sox and about three guys on St. Louis that played hurt during the Series, did you hear anything from them?  Hell no.  They are baseball players, it should be a given that you play hurt.  Did you hear Larry Walker complain of his back spasms, I think not.  Also, Curt, no one cares who you voted for, and no one cares of your beliefs.

Next in line in my hatred is Jason Varitek.  He is a good pitcher’s catcher and a good defender, that’s about it.  Unfortunately, Varitek is also reaching superstar status.  Since their victory in October, I have seen Varitek on talk shows and magazine covers several times.  Why you ask?  Beats me.  Another guy who for his entire career could barely hit a ball out of his shadow now makes the cover of ESPN The Magazine’s baseball preview issue.  It doesn’t seem right, if any Red Sox player should receive a bunch of attention its Manny, that is it.

Another thing that sparked my hate for the Red Sox is the game on May 27, at Yankee Stadium.  This is just a small example, but it definitely sparked some more rage towards the Bean Towners.  The ESPN announcers may as well go to the dugout and perform favors for the entire Red Sox roster.  It was early on in the game, Tim Wakefield on the hill for Boston, two runners on, first and second.  Wakefield threw over to first to keep the runner close, and it ended up being a close play.  After the play, the announcers raged for about 10 minutes on how great Wakefield’s move to first was, and how it can all be attributed to the Red Sox desire to study up on video of other teams, and how them studying video allows them to know the other players’ moves, and how their relentless work ethic has gotten them to where they are.  Give me a break, its Major League Baseball, even the Kansas City Royals study video.  For the love of God people, please stop this Red Sox madness!

Unfortunately, it does not end with just the Boston fans.  I live in Dallas, and I see people supporting the Red Sox EVERYWHERE.  T-shirts, hats, bumper stickers, the works.  I guess our good old Dallas fair-weather faithful have failed to notice that our Rangers are in first place right now and the lowly Red Sox are not even sniffing their division lead.

I’m sure a lot of people would disagree with the way I feel about the Boston Red Sox, and for this I apologize.  I literally cannot take much more of their ridiculous amounts of media coverage.  I hope to God the Yankees pull it out this year and start another 90 years of misery for the Boston Red Sox, and their fans.

This article is hilarious to me You’re a Yankees fan? Now you know how the rest of the country feels about your team.

Is this a joke? You have to have lost your mind. It seems to me that you are a jealous Yankee fan that can’t take that they actually beat the Yankees. Last Year by far they had the greatest line-up and rotation. Not to mention they did the unthinkable beating the Yankees in the ALCS being down 3 games to none; the first time in history it has ever happened. They deserve this much attention that is for sure; they are the world champions. Last but not least, Curt Schilling is one of the greatest players on their team. He is a Hall of Fame pitcher that helped break the curse bloody sock and all which is one of the greatest playoff performances ever. To play through that pain is tough. The other great player on their team is Ortiz which made the biggest plays at the biggest times. In my eyes he is the modern Mr. October and could retire now and still go to the Hall of Fame because of his playoff feats. This is just the article of a jealous Yankee fan and should be dumped.

hahahahah i voted for this article.

it’s amazing how everything has come full circle.

absolutely loved it every word is so friggen true. loved the part about schilling playing injured.

there is nothing worse in any sport than bandwagon fans.

yanks i am slightly a yankee fan at the most.  SLIGHTLY.  However, my preference for the Yankees over the Red Sox had no influence whatsoever on my column.  And you should reexamine your views on sports if you think David Ortiz is currently of Hall of Fame quality.

Amen i agree whole heartedly with this article. Every word is true. Yea, you can say “oh they deserve this”. well if they could win a World Series every now and then instead of being the biggest choke artists to ever play the game of baseball. They had to rely on a “curse” to get them a World Series win. Isn’t that pathetic? And bandwagon fans sicken me, my high school is full of them.

And in case you couldn’t figure this out, I am a Yankees fan.

i am so sick of schilling he’s a blowhard that is more interested in getting his name in the press than actually winning ball games.  someone tell that loudmouth jerk to stuff it already.  and this is coming from a phillies fan.

get over it — After 90 years, you get to celebrate. Or to put it this way: When the Yankees win heir 28th title or whatever it is, Yankee fans expect everyone to recognize their team as the best one in MLB history, which it is. However, Yankee fan can’t stand it when they choke away a 3 – 0 series lead, and then watch as the team that is perenially 2nd place becomes the champs. Well, here’s a hint to all those people who hate the Sox: It is big news. It matters. For once in your lives, suck it up and let someone else enjoy their fun. For the record, I am neither Yankee fan nor hater, nor Sox fan nor hater. We didn’t hear from you in the 1980s, so find a more positive way to use your internet connection, like gambling away your paychecks…

— Rich Quodomine,

Go Away Soxs Very insightful and written very well. Maybe a little one sided but definetly got your point across. Looking forward to more of your writings.

The ESPN announcers? — Come on, Joe Buck and McCarver are doing favors for the Yankees.  I think McCarver is trying to have Jeters baby.

When Brown punched the wall last year why didn’t he suck it up and pitch?  You need your hand to pitch right?  Well pitching isn’t all about your arms and hands, the more leg strength you have the better you pitch.  If you had a torn tendon in your foot you’d probably be collecting workmans comp for 6 months.

You sound like a bitter Yankee fan.

I will agree on one point I’m tired of the Yankee / Red Sox coverage and I’m a Boston fan.  It gets old and I’m sure the country is sick of it.  To manipulate the schedule so they play each other opening day for ESPN and then to have them play the following week is insane.

These games can decide 1st and 2nd place.  Play more of these games in July.  Have them play last series of season when ot could make the difference between 1st and 2nd.

As for Damon, don’t knock him too much, he may be your centerfielder next year.

Marlins Fan Baby — Yankees…I don’t know but my favorite memory as a Marlins fan might be Miguel Cabrera knocking Roger Clemen’s pitch over the left field wall, after he threw up and in knocking him flat on his back. Let me tell you, I’m still hyped about that. Or it might be the fact that we got to celebrate our second World Series Championship at Yankee Stadium, with Josh Beckett violently thrusting his arm in the air, the stupid New Yorkers stunned that their 5 billion dollar salary couldn’t win them a championship. I hate the Yankees and their fans. I hate George Steinbrenner, and I hate Brian Cashman. Derek Jeter can shove it, as well as Jason Giambi and Carl Pavano (oh that’s particularly funny…the Yankess spent big money on him after ONE good season). The Yankees…I could continue but I think I’ve said enough.
