Chicago…

Chicago. The second city. The second largest and third most populated city in this great country of ours. We have four major sports teams; the Bears, Bulls, White Sox and Cubs. These four teams get no credit and no respect from the national medias.

Here in Chicago we have the most passionate fans on Earth and four losing teams. In my estimation I live in the greatest sports city in the world and I am tired of the national sports networks not giving my teams any props.
Da’ Bears: The last time this team won a championship was in 1985. The last winning season was in 2001, since then there have been over 20 quarterbacks and two coaches. Last season, the Bears were ranked 18th in defense and 32nd in offense. During the off-season, the GM, Jerry Angelo, when out and got a number one wide receiver in Mussin Muhamid and two guys to help the worst offensive line in the NFL.

During the draft last weekend he upgraded the offense by drafting the running back out of Texas, Cedric Benson, who will be given the opportunity to take the starting job from Thomas Jones. He also improved the offense by drafting a capable back-up QB in Kyle Orton along with WR Mark Bradley.

In 2005 I expect that the Bears will give both Minnesota and Green Bay a run for their money in the NFC North, if Rex Grossman can stay healthy and compete for his first full season.

The Chicago Bulls: This team may be the best in the city. After a 0-9 start to the season they rallied to go 47-33 and finish with the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference and with the 3rd best record in the conference.

This team has been stricken by the injury bug and has not had their original starting lineup together since January. They played without their best scorer, Kirk Hindrich, for games at a time. In the middle of the regular season, the heart of the team in Eddy Curry went down with an irregular heartbeat. No pun intended. Curry would sit out the rest of the season and the play-offs.

The final piece of the puzzle is the savior, Ben Gordon. When the Bulls drafted Gordon with the 3rd pick in the 1st round, GM John Paxton said ” We drafted Ben Jordan.” This kid seems to be the piece of the puzzle that makes it all come together. He has a very good chance of winning the Rookie of the Year award, along with leading his team deep into the playoffs.

The White Sox: The Sox maybe the most under rated team in all of sports. They have been of fire since the beginning of the season. This team has the best ERA in the big league at 3.43 in 22 games this season.

The Sox have the talent, drive, and determination to take the AL Central Division Championship away from the hated Minnesota Twins. This team has totally changed their look for the 2005 season. They have gone from a team that will hit 200 home runs a year to a team that manager, Ozzie Guillen, likes to call `smart ball’ not small ball.

The Sox have also been without their # 3 hitter and DH, Frank Thomas, for the whole season and most of last. Frank is scheduled to start his minor league stint in about 2 weeks and be ready to contribute to the effort. Once the Big Hurt does return it will only make the Chicago White Sox a better team.

Finally, we get to the team that needs the most help.

My Chicago Cubs: The team hasn’t won a championship in 98 years. The team needs a manager, closer, and someone to stop the injuries.

Since the beginning of spring training there has been four key injuries: Nomar Garciaparra (torn groin tendon), Todd Walker (Knee sprain), Joe Borowski (fractured wrist), and Chad Fox (no one knows yet). With these injuries the Cubs are still above .500 but four games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for 1st place.

The Cubs have no manager. We have an incompetent fool. This guy can’t manage a pitching staff, isn’t real good at selecting match ups and can’t hurt player’s feelings. In my opinion, Dusty will lose his job by the All-Star Game if the Cubs don’t get their act together and start to win.

The city of Chicago yearns for a championship, in any sport. We have GMs in this city that don’t seem to get any thing together. We also have fans that can’t get along with each other because they don’t root for the same team. I’m just one person but I think that the city will get its championship shot in the very near future
