On to section three of SC.COM’s fantasy football preview. This time we explore the world of QB’s…
…once again we pit our favorite fantasy duo of FILTHadelphia vs. baltiMORON…
Enjoy:
FILTHadelphia’s QB Rankings
The QB position is a tough one. Pick one too high and you sacrifice RB depth. Pass on the superstar QB and you give up a guaranteed point producer week in and week out.
This year I truly believe that Michael Vick is the best player in the NFL. I think he’ll win the MVP award and do things that people haven’t seen before. However, I can’t pass up Mr.Manning. He’s #1 until proven otherwise.
#1 – P Manning, IND (30)
Manning is the king of the hill right now. I’ll probably regret ranking him and Harrison so high and falling into the trap of “Last’s Years” top performers being ready to get even better…but man they are good.
Potential: 10
Health: 10
Role: 10
#2 – D Culpepper, MIN (27)
I think this year Moss and Daunte play together nicely. No arguing and bickering, just bombs away. I like Bennett and Smith taking pressure off of these guys. They haven’t had that since Robert Smith of the Cure left town.
Potential: 10
Health: 8
Role: 9
#3 – M Vick, ATL (27)
He’s the MVP of Fantasy Football this year. Hands down. That’s my gut. My ranking system has him at #3 due to injury concerns and the way he plays the game. But man…I see huge things from this guy this year…and if you have a league like my big money league where QB’s running the ball into the end zone is double points…WATCH OUT!
Potential: 10
Health: 7
Role: 10

MICHAEL BE CAREFUL!!! YOU HAVE TO STAY HEALTHY TO WIN MVP!!!
#4 – M Hasselbeck, SEA (26)
His brother Tim has the hotter wife but this guy really got it cooking last year. He has tremendous confidence now and should have a big season.
Potential: 8
Health: 9
Role: 9

“Come on man…my wife is hot…and hey I’m going to pass for 4,000 yards this year easy!”
#5 – B Favre, GB (26)
Do I really need to write a summary about Favre?
Potential: 7
Health: 10
Role: 9
#6 – T Brady, NE (26)
Super Bowl MVP. Methodical passer. Comparisons to the guy I think was the best QB in the history of the NFL, Joe Montana…This guy is smooth…
Potential: 8
Health: 9
Role: 9
#7 – T Green, KC (26)
Trent can ball with the lineup he has in KC. I watched the preseason game vs. the Giants the other night and he’s got the offensive to sparkle…Fly ball Fly!
Potential: 8
Health: 8
Role: 10
#8 – D McNabb, PHI (26)
Ahhh…the homer in me didn’t rank D-MAC way up top. I love Donovan, I really do. He is a winner in every sense of the word. He can improvise and he can throw the ball 900mph. However, Donovan often plays like he’s asleep for 3 quarters…wakes up and realizes he’s supposed to win…wins the game…and then goes onto the next week. It’s rather nice for us Philly fans but it hurts his Fantasy value. TO Should help…but Stinkston still Stinks.
Potential: 9
Health: 8
Role: 9
#9 – M Bulger, STL (25)
Kurt Warner. Trent Green. Marc Bulger. Me. You. Jim Everett. Who cares? It’s the turf…it’s Mike Martz…it’s Faulk and Steven Jackson or Holt and Bruce…who cares…like I said…bombs away.
Potential: 8
Health: 9
Role: 8
#10 – B Leftwich, JAC (25)
Ahhhh. Finally a sleeper. I mean not really and how can I bump a guy like McNair from this list? Well I think Leftwich is going to have a real big year…we’ll see.
Potential: 9
Health: 7
Role: 9
The rest…
#11 – S McNair, TEN (9-6-10-25)
#12 – C Pennington, NYJ (8-7-9-24)
#13 – A Brooks, NO (9-6-9-24)
#14 – J Harrington, DET (9-7-8-24)

Is he a sleeper or a bust? We’ll find out this year.
#15 – C Palmer, CIN (9-8-6-23)
#16 – J McCown, ARI (7-9-7-23)
#17 – D Bledsoe, BUF (8-5-9-22)
#18 – J Garcia, CLE (7-6-8-21)
#19 – J Plummer, DEN (7-5-9-21)
#20 – M Brunell, WAS (8-4-9-21)
#21 – D Carr, HOU (7-7-7-21)
#22 – R Grossman, CHI (7-7-7-21)
#23 – J Delhomme, CAR (6-8-6-20)
#24 – T Rattay, SF (7-7-6-20)
#25 – K Collins, OAK (8-7-4-19)

In all honesty…Kerry might not be doing much right now but he may be one injury away from being a top 5 pick. Keep an eye on where he falls in your draft and grab him as a #2.
#26 – AJ Feeley, MIA (7-7-5-19)
#27 – T Maddox, PIT (6-5-7-18)
#28 – R Gannon, OAK (6-4-7-17)
#29 – B Johnson, TB (5-4-7-16)
#30 – K Boller, BAL (5-5-6-16)
#31 – E Manning, NYG (6-9-1-16)
#32 – J Fiedler, MIA (4-7-5-16)
#33 – D Henson, Dal (7-7-1-15)
baltiMORON’s QB Rankings
Quarterback Analysis
Something must be awry in the cosmos; I agree with Philth too much! Well, at least with the top 5. Before I dive into why let me say one thing about QB’s (if you know me I’m going to say more than one thing): It doesn’t really matter who you have; match-ups and depth at the position are more important.
I created a bit of a stink in my 12-team keeper league when I adopted the 4 QB draft strategy. It’s pretty simple: be the last guy to draft a QB and be the first guy to draft a back-up…but also–here’s the key–draft your 3rd and 4th before half the league has picked their backup. Chances are one of them will be the surprise 30 TD QB of the year, or you will have one team playing the Cardinals or Chargers at home. It’s easier to predict who will throw for 2 TD’s in a given week than 32 TD’s over a season. Plus, you got some good trading leverage.
In my extensive research in statistical trends of the NFL (sarcasm–I don’t get paid for this so a couple times a day I do actual work), I’ve noticed that playing on the road greatly reduces passing efficiency for QB’s (duh! It’s tough to play on the road in today’s NFL) but WR productions is static. Mostly it’s the 3rd and 4th WR’s, the TE’s and the RB’s who don’t perform well under duress and therefore QB’s suffer. The moral of the story: bench QB’s on the road but not the WR’s.
Enough Bull, here’s the ranking:
1. Peyton – Philth had it dead on; it’s a pass first and he’s accurate and consistent.
2. Vick – I sincerely believe he’ll outrun some team’s leading rusher but he’s not there as a passing threat
3. Brady – See Manning’s description only he lacks the “country yokle” points
4. Culpeper – Will someone please septuple cover Randy Moss! Running game is too strong to put at #2
5. Hasslebeck – Perfect Situation: stud running back, pass-happy coach, solid receivers and hot wife…uh so maybe his brother has the perfect situation
6. Favre – you know Manning has yet to throw for 30 TD’s and that’s considered a down year for this guy; sidenote: best football player I’ve seen in my brief lifetime
7. Pennington – Yet to play a full NFL season but lousy defense means always having to score and why is it only one ear sticks out?

8. Leftwich – I thought the Jags would be the next Panthers until I heard Ditka say it on ESPN ( I guess I like Marshall QB’s)
9. McNair – Titans might as well rename themselves the McNairs because that’s all they got; by the way McNair is still reeling that Nick Nolte got best DWI Mugshot Photo Award
10. Brooks – A lousy D, talent at the skill positions and plays in a dome. If he doesn’t do it this year than he’s off the good list
11. McNabb – TO better apply stick `um on his shoes if he’s going to catch the ball
12. Green – With Holmes doing all the scoring and the WR corp still the sam, I can’t even justify this spot here but Vermeil and him got a groovy kind of love
13. Bulger – There’s no “INT” in “Team” someone better tell him that because he might put up the #’s but if your league takes away for picks than go with the next guy on the list
14. Bledsoe – I like the Bills offense to rebound this year because of Mularkey; watching a Steeler 2-point conversion in 2002 was like watching the Harlem Globetrotters. Next thing you know Meadowlark Lemon is in the end zone with the football, but I don’t know how it got there.
15. Plummer – The Broncos overpaid him but there’s more emphasis on the passing game this year

Is Jake for real or is career about to head south for good?
16. Gannon – Hello? MVP two years ago. Of course my buddy said the same thing about Kurt Warner last year(for those who don’t me, I’ve been saying this from day 1 but have you ever noticed how Brenda Warner looks like Gozur from the final scene in Ghostbusters?)
17. Carr – Not sold on Davis as RB but the WR’s are there and the defense isn’t
18. Maddox – Ward and Burress is still a nice combo and Staley should improve offensive production
19. Harrington – I still have a hard time giving Matt Millen credit for anything; I guess Brian Baldinger wasn’t available for the job when it opened.
20. Garcia – you think he’s saying “Finally rid of TO” and then the Soldier comes along and ruins his paradise.

“Hey Terrell…I smacked both of these hoes around last night…I swear…”
21. MCCown
22. Brunell
23. Palmer
24. Delhomme
25. Vinny Testicles
I’m stopping here because if you are using anyone else than you better start looking for a trade. Notice though in a 12 team league or greater, these guys will most likely be on a roster so grab your 4 quicker than the others so you don’t have to phone in Vinny Testicles as your starter (does anyone phone in line-ups anymore?)
Also to rate the rookie crop for keeper players:
1. Philip Rivers – I like QB’s with kids, if you can make it through college while playing football, being married and having kids than you’ll succeed. Also why Carr was better than Harrington
2. Roethylisbuerguer–I think they typed half of his name on the front of the jersey
Manning and Lohsman get into a fight about who has the dumbest reason for thinking they are better than they really are and knock themselves out; they’re both punks and stay away from them.
