Return to Glory?

Penn State’s record as of today: 4-0. It has been a long five years for Joe Paterno and the Penn State Nittany Lions. Ever since the great graduating class of 1999, which saw two Nittany Lions, Courtney Brown and LaVar Arrington, go one and two of the NFL draft, things have been anything and everything but happy in Happy Valley.

Who Goes to Class Anyways?

Recently, star running back Adrian Peterson of the University of Oklahoma Sooners was suspended from practice for two days because he failed to go to class.  Should fans care if athletes from big-time schools do not go to class?

You Can’t Count Them Out

I know everyone has been ripping on the New York Yankees all season long and everyone wants to see the first $200 million dollar team not make the playoffs, but any fan can’t help but think what might happen if the Yankees do pull it off this week and win yet another division title. Think about it; how many starters have the Yankees used this season? Probably enough to fill three major league starting rotations. It has been a combination of good and bad for manager Joe Torre this season, but don’t be fooled because come October things could start cooking in the Bronx, and the Yankees could become a very, very scary team in the playoffs.

Who’s not on first base?

Without a name given, a glance at a group of Major League Baseball statistics reading, 3,020 hits, 585 doubles, 569 home runs and 1,835 RBIs, will more times than not, trigger a reactionary muttering of three words: “Hall of Fame.”

Assign Rafael Palmeiro’s name to the front of that list and you may hear a much different three words: “Big F-ing Cheater.”

A Thank You To My Amazins

They say that it’s time to pack it in. That there is nothing left to play for. That it is time to throw away those scorecards and throw on your favorite football uniform. There’s no denying that unless you are the Red Sox or the Yankees fan, your team’s role is that of the “spoiler”; the least glorified and most under-appreciated role in the pennant race, and one few fans want to be a part of.

However, as a diehard Met fan, I’ve never been as proud of my team as I have this week.
