The Undefeated Record

While we are all marveling in the great starts of Florida and Colorado State and Indiana State, one unbeaten has been forgotten.

True, this team hasn’t beaten anyone. No seriously, they haven’t beaten anyone. They haven’t even beaten a Nicholls State or an Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. And true, it won’t beat anyone until at least January 11, if it ever does beat anyone. But for the beleaguered Baylor men’s basketball program, it can at least brag about one thing: its undefeated mark.

A Totally Changed System

I know that the BCS is not what everyone wants or likes. I have created another system that may be more welcomed. It was just for fun. If it offends you or your team, it wasn’t meant to.

Bad (Sales) Pitch

Do Major League Baseball GM’s understand what they are doing? Do J.P. Ricciardi or Pat Gillick thoroughly think things through? The reason I’m asking these questions is because I’m astonished at the contracts players have been receiving this off-season, especially the pitchers. I don’t know about you, but if I’m running a Major League organization, I’m not willing to pay someone $75,000 per inning to pitch for my team, unless the back of his jersey says “Rivera” or “Clemens”.

Gordon signs with Phillies

George Steinbrenner will trade his best minor league prospects for a 41-year-old starter but he won’t resign a 38-year-old setup man. With an ERA of 2.39 over two years with the Yankees, their front office did not see fit to resign setup man/closer, Tom Gordon, and he was grabbed by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Welcome to "Dirty December"

by Trevor Freeman

Well it took years of debate, but finally “Dirty December” has come to fruition.  Perhaps it was the realization that massive amounts of money were being left on the table (i.e. $300 million dollar BCS contract with Fox versus $6 billion dollar NCAA Tournament package).  However, the reasons don’t matter.  To the rejoice of college football fans and the gambling public, let’s breakdown our first 16-team national title tournament.

NFL Power Rankings Week 13 – December 6 2005

Seattle’s strong showing on national television puts them #2 in the power rankings. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh and Dallas’ playoff hopes are fading and they are dropping in the standings. Jacksonville remains at #9 but they might be the only current top 10 team not to make the playoffs. Here we go with the complete Week 13 Power Rankings:

Will Anyone Beat Duke?

The Duke Blue Devils were college basketball’s concensus number one overall team in the preseason, and at the looks of things this ranking is not changing anytime soon. When a University has a reputation that Duke has and a coach as respected as Coach Krzyzewski recruits usually find you. This years Duke recruiting class was one of a kind.

Bobby I’lltradeyou — Why trading Bobby Abreu for Manny Ramirez wouldn’t work for either team

By: Jon Morrill

This past week, rumors ran rampant about a possible deal between the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies involving two little-known journeymen outfielders, Manny Ramirez and Bobby Abreu. Apparently they both have some offensive potential; one’s a Gold Glove winner, the other a former World Series MVP… or something. I didn’t even know that the Red Sox had won a recent World Series. I’m even told that the A-brew kid won a Home Run Derby somewhere–I don’t know, I’m not even that into baseball.

Is Troy Aikman a Hall of Fame Quarterback?

Should an individual player get into the NFL Hall of Fame based mostly on the accomplishments of the TEAM he played on? If we’re talking about running backs, receivers, or defensive players, the history of the NFL’s Hall of Fame answers the question with a resounding no. Backs, receivers, and defensive players must get in on the basis of superior statistics, or tremendous impact. But, why is that standard seemingly ignored when it comes to quarterbacks? Or, rather, some quarterbacks?

Troy Aikman is not a Hall of Fame quarterback. Troy Aikman’s statistics pale in comparison to his peers during his playing era. Many of his numbers even fall short of Hall of Fame quarterbacks who played in less pass happy eras (pre-1980’s). However, Troy Aikman is one of the leading candidates for induction in the NFL’s 2006 Hall of Fame class. Why?
