Northeast Division Preview

The NHL season is just three days away. With that being said, the NHL previews continue with the Northeast division. Boston made some major news in the off-season, signing superstar Zedno Chara to a five year 37.5 million dollar contract. The main questions for this division lie in Toronto, Ottawa, and in Buffalo. Let’s take a look at how the new look Northeast will shake down.

Atlantic Division Preview

The NHL’s Atlantic Division seems to be one of the weaker divisions this coming season. With aging superstars, bloated budgets and insane contracts, the Atlantic division is going to be a struggle to stomach this year. However, there are some bright spots to this division. Young stars like Sidney Crosby, Henrik Lundqvist, and R.J. Umberger, look to be key players for their respective teams this season. Let’s see how the teams will stack up.

NHL Preview – Southeast Division

As training camps begin to open in the National Hockey League, it is never too early to look into the crystal ball and see how this season will play out. This off-season saw its share up interesting head scratches and stories. We started the off-season with even more of the human soap opera that is Todd Bertuzzi, and then ended with the summer blockbuster of Evgini Malkin. This has been one amazing off-season.  So, who’s going to win the drink and who’s going to be on the clock in Columbus? In a six part series, we will look at the six NHL conferences and how they will stack up at the end. We’ll break them down alphabetically, and look at the one major off-season transaction that will determine where they go.

Greg Marshall’s Insane 48 Hours

When Greg Marshall walked out of the College of Charleston yesterday, he was the head coach of a Cougars team in disarray. On his way to start packing, he was the head coach of the Winthrop Eagles again. What happened on the road trip home is cause for speculation. Coach Marshall said that after talking to his wife, a Charleston native, Rock Hill was home to him. After what was said to be a one-hour phone conversation yesterday with C of C officials, Marshall was re-introduced as Winthrop’s head basketball coach.

Steve Yzerman has a tough decision to make. Does he hang up the skates, or will he be around the Red Wings for his twenty-fourth season? He’s imposed a July first deadline to make his mind up.

Wild and Wacky NHL Draft Trades

Draft time has come in the NHL. Yesterday saw many deals, many surprises, and many, for lack of a better term, moments during the draft. For example, Edmonton’s phone would not stop ringing yesterday due to the news of Chris Pronger. Pronger apparently wants a trade, and again this is just rumored, because his wife thinks it’s too cold in Edmonton, and wants to move to a warmer climate.

Bertuzzi Traded to Florida

Tonight, Todd Bertuzzi finds himself with a new address. The former Islander turned Canuck was traded to the Florida Panthers along with Alexander Auld, and Byran Allen for Roberto Luongo, Lukas Kraijeck , and a 2006 sixth round draft pick. With that, this ends two years of controversy.
