A month down in the MLB, and we can’t really be sure of anything – except maybe that the White Sox are the best team in the league right now and the Rockies the worst. Here’s the power rankings up until now, comments are encouraged.

| 1(1) | ![]() |
19-7 | They’ve led in a MLB record 26 straight games thanks to Ozzieball. |
| 2(4) | ![]() |
17-9 | The AL East has four of the top five teams in the MLB in terms of run production, and the Orioles are tops right now, although Josh Towers seems to pose a problem for some reason. |
| 3(2) | ![]() |
17-8 | They’re better so far than last year’s NL Champion team in terms of both hitting and pitching. |
| 4(3) | ![]() |
17-9 | They did just enough last week to hold a small lead in the NL West over Arizona. |
| 5(8) | ![]() |
15-11 | The Braves are tied with the Marlins for the AL East lead, despite giving up 15 more runs. |
| 6(5) | ![]() |
15-9 | The Marlins closer, Guillermo Mota, is injured, but that shouldn’t affect them much if their starters can continue performing in that role anyways. |
| 7(6) | ![]() |
16-11 | Steve Finley is only hitting .170, but he has six homeruns. The Angels are in the midst of a three game winning streak, their longest to this point. |
| 8(10) | ![]() |
14-13 | They exercised a 2006 option on Jose Guillen last week. Smart move – he’s been their best hitter so far. |
| 9(7) | ![]() |
15-10 | Juan Rincon was the latest casualty of the new steroid policy, even though he (surprise!) feverently denies the accusations. |
| 10(13) | ![]() |
16-11 | Brad Halsey and Brandon Webb are each undefeated, despite ERA’s of over 3. |
| 11(9) | ![]() |
14-12 | Johnny Damon is considering retirement at the end of this year, but he still wants a five or six year contract. I understand the Sox don’t want to let their idiots leave, but they might be able to field an older team than the Giants if they don’t quit giving players the ability to retire as Red Sox. |
| 12(17) | ![]() |
16-12 | They reversed directions again last week, winning seven of eight and continuing their ridiculous inconsistency. |
| 13 (22) | ![]() |
14-12 | The Giants were hot last week, only dropping one game out of seven. |
| 14(18) | ![]() |
14-14 | I’d be willing to bet that they’re the only team that gets a vast majority of its power from the infield. The only problem with that is that none of their good young infielders are hitting above .270. |
| 15(20) | ![]() |
13-14 | They’ve at least made progress, sending Adam Hyzdu down to AAA and climbing to 19th in run production. |
| 16(25) | ![]() |
12-13 | They somehow managed to lose against John Halama and their best starter, Jeremy Bonderman, has a 3.92 ERA, but the offense has kept them around .500. |
| 17(27) | ![]() |
12-13 | Color me surprised, the Brewers have won five in a row and are dangerously close to emerging above .500. |
| 18(12) | ![]() |
12-13 | I’ve seen a lot of people calling Derek Lee the best player in the NL to this point, and I can’t really disagree with them. He’s going to need to be even better though if they hope to compete now that Wood is out for 5-6 weeks. |
| 19 (23) | ![]() |
13-14 | Zito’s ERA has continued to soar, but at least he got his first win last week. |
| 20(11) | ![]() |
13-14 | Tom Glavine has been horrible so far with a 7.04 ERA. Beltran has been good, but not good enough to actually warrant the massive deal he got. |
| 21(15) | ![]() |
12-15 | Last week I wondered what was up with Jim Thome, and now we’ve got an answer (his back). At least Billy Wagner still hasn’t let up any runs in ten appearances. |
| 22(21) | ![]() |
11-14 | They have one of the best team ERA’s in the league, but one of the worst record. They’re in fourth in the NL Central, and have given up the least runs. |
| 23(16) | ![]() |
11-16 | They called up Robinson Cano to be their everyday second baseman, but they’re still one of the oldest teams in the league with an average age of about 34. For comparison, the Giants are a little younger, at around 33. |
| 24(14) | ![]() |
12-15 | Their starting pitching has been poor, with four starters sporting ERA’s over four. |
| 25(22) | ![]() |
9-11 | They’re the second to worst offensive team in the league, but they still have 16 more runs than the Pirates |
| 26(19) | ![]() |
10-16 | The Reds have won two of their last ten games, and it doesn’t help when their bullpen gives up seven runs in the ninth inning to blow a game. |
| 27(30) | ![]() |
9-16 | Well, at least Craig Wilson finally hit his first home run of the year. Going to the Pirate game last Saturday actually made me sick (it was around 30 degrees and raining off and on). I think its some sort of metaphor for liking this team or something. |
| 28(26) | ![]() |
9-18 | They’ve got the second worst team ERA in the MLB at 6.00, ahead of only the Rockies. |
| 29(29) | ![]() |
7-19 | Mike Sweeney already has matched his homerun total from April, which I suppose is a good thing. |
| 30(28) | ![]() |
6-18 | Losers in their last seven, the Rockies are essentially a good AAA team right now. |

Phillies will make a run if… …we can get Lieberthal and David Bell on the DL as well.
Believe that.
Ryan Howard is about to hit homers all over the place.
You think? How has Howard been doing at AAA? I’ve heard that he’s supposed to be promising, but that’s it.
