NFL Week 14 Picks – December 11 2005

Last week was almost too easy — 54-10 (.844) overall, with Boston Mac leading the way at 15-1. We’re coming down to the wire and looking to finish strong despite the bad karma from Trevor’s comment on Stevie Wonder in the podcast.

Locks of the Week

Vegas Vinny: Seattle is a great team. Seattle is my pick in the NFC. That said, they will not cover the 16 points they’re giving to the Niners. People thought they’d have a letdown after beating the Giants in dramatic fashion but that didn’t happen. Still, it was almost too easy beating the Eagles and the team will take a collective breather. It’s hard not to overlook the Niners. Expect a slight Monday Night hangover and the Niners to keep it tight. Take the Niners (+16) to cover.

Teri Berg: Last week I took a chance on the Broncos beating KC at Arrowhead after Denver hadn’t won there in ages. One should always beware of that kind of home-field advantage. But here I am again, going against the home-field grain: The Chiefs haven’t won in Texas Stadium since 1975! Still, as BostonMac points out, Larry Johnson is on a tear, averaging 142 yards a game since taking over for Priest Holmes as KC’s starter. Also, since Willie Roaf is back, Trent Green’s passing game looks rejuvenated. Dallas’ offense, on the other hand, is on the slide down. The No. 3 passer in Week 7, Bledsoe has dropped to No. 10 — and he’s taken the best part of the ‘Boys’ offense with him. And although the Chiefs’ passing defense has stubbornly remained at 30th in the league all season, I think their front line can pressure Bledsoe enough to keep him off-balance. I’ll take Kansas City (+3) in the upset.

BostonMac: Grandmama!!! Hop on the Grandmama bandwagon! Yes that is correct, ladies and gentlemen, the best running back in the National Football League right now is none other than Larry Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs, who has officially Wally Pipped Priest Holmes. LJ has put up five straight 100-yard games, and look for him to make it six against the fading Cowboys, losers of two straight. KC is playing with a lot of confidence after beating the Broncos last week, and they look like they are ready to challenge for a wild card spot despite their ridiculous schedule. After putting up 140 and 2 TD’s against Denver’s tough D, LJ and the Chiefs are too hot for the ‘Boys to handle On a side note, after this loss, Dallas finds themselves lookin=. g up at Minnesota, their playoff hopes about as likely as the GOP’s chances of holding onto both houses of Congress in ’06. In a mild upset, take the points with KANSAS CITY (+3) over Dallas.

Trevor F: I’m looking at the thirteen points Miami is getting against San Diego and
I am loving Nick Saban’s crew to cover. While Miami is only 5-7, they
have been playing teams tough. They showed a lot of spunk last week
against Buffalo and Nick Saban has them playing hard. He deserves Coach
of the Year consideration if he can guide this team to seven wins with the
quarterback tandem of Gus Frerotte and Sage Rosenfels. The Miami defense
is good enough to keep San Diego around 21 points and I think the Fish can
get 10. Dolphins (+13).
