|---|---|---|---|
| 1(1) | ![]() |
58-19 | The Suns have kept the number 1 spot based on their season long dominance of likewise dominant teams (minus San Antonio). They should stay here, unless Nash goes out again. |
| 2(6) | ![]() |
46-31 | 21-0 since late February (minus 2 losses to Phoenix). That equals the number 2 spot on the Power Rankings. |
| 3(2) | ![]() |
56-21 | Shaq is out with his annual pre postseason “injury”. Not like it matters, they’ll get all the continuity they need by swamping their 1st round opponent. |
| 4(4) | ![]() |
53-24 | The Mavs have pretty much locked up that 4 spot in the West. With their 3 regular season wins against the Kings, they are hoping for the Kings to keep number 5. |
| 5(5) | ![]() |
50-27 | With a possible 1st round matchup vs. the Cavs, don’t expect the Pistons to show all their cards when Cleveland comes to town on Sunday. |
| 6(3) | ![]() |
57-20 | Their 131 point average during their last 2 games offsets their 79 point average during the previous 2. However, they haven’t beaten a playoff possible team since March. That’s why they are number 6. |
| 7(8) | ![]() |
44-33 | Pop the champagne, the Bulls are in the playoffs for the 1st time since 23 was running things. A 1st round victory will guarantee some Chicago riots. |
| 8(9) | ![]() |
47-31 | Keep an eye on T-Mac’s body language. They don’t want the 5 seed. Who would you rather play, Seattle or Dallas? They should win just enough to stay above Denver. |
| 9(13) | ![]() |
48-30 | Sacramento is gearing up for another playoff series against the Mavericks this year. Now that Peja is starting to catch fire, that series could be the best yet. |
| 10(11) | ![]() |
42-35 | Ok I’ve neglected this for awhile, but Rick Carlisle is also a legitimate coach of the year candidate. I heard a rumor that he coached an all girls squad to a city championship over the summer. Not impressed? The girls played in the boys league. |
| 11(17) | ![]() |
31-47 | If playoff seeds were given out based on how well the teams are playing in March and April, the Warriors would be in. They would be in as a 5 seed. |
| 12(7) | ![]() |
50-27 | Seattle is the coldest playoff team right now. They are being chased by the hottest team (Denver). If Seattle and Denver continue on their same paths, Denver will win the Northwest division by a game. |
| 13(14) | ![]() |
41-35 | Looks like Boston put it in cruise control a little to early. Philly is right behind them and are definitely eyeing that division (and subsequent 3 seed). With 4 of their remaining 6 games on the road and a slim 2 game lead over Philly, Boston better be careful. |
| 14(17) | ![]() |
38-39 | Remember when there were no teams above .500 in the Atlantic? With 2 straight wins the Nets will be the 3rd . |
| 15(18) | ![]() |
39-37 | Iverson continues to will the Sixers to the playoffs. The bad thing is that they are fighting to play Miami or Detroit. |
| 16(15) | ![]() |
44-33 | Is it just me or does a Phoenix-Memphis 1st round series sound pretty good. Sorry Minnesota. |
| 17(10) | ![]() |
40-37 | For a team trying to make the playoffs, losing to the Hawks is not going to cut it. Maybe next year Minnesota. |
| 18(16) | ![]() |
40-37 | I am thinking about changing the picture of this team to Lebron. With nobody else on his team playing any basketball, Lebron is gonna carry this team as far he can. Don’t expect it to stop in the playoffs. |
| 19(12) | ![]() |
42-35 | Washington needs to win out, if they wanna have a chance to get to the 2nd round. Based on their on their 26-12 home record and a road record that looks like puppy chow, they need that 4 seed. |
| 20(22) | ![]() |
34-44 | Kobe blah blah blah blah. Kobe blah blah blah. Kobe blah blah blah. |
| 21(21) | ![]() |
34-43 | The only reason the Clips are below the Lakers is because their only recent win was against the lowly Bobcats. At least the Lakers won in Seattle. |
| 22(20) | ![]() |
35-42 | Grant Hill being out shouldn’t diminish his Comeback player of the year award. As a matter of fact, the NBA should model the trophy after him. |
| 23(23) | ![]() |
29-48 | The spoiler campaign continues. Except they aren’t beating any playoff teams. |
| 24(25) | ![]() |
30-46 | The Knicks would rather pull the feeding tube on this season and begin their off-season extreme makeover early. |
| 25(24) | ![]() |
31-46 | Vince is coming back to town on Friday. This is the Raptors lone playoff game. |
| 26(28) | ![]() |
24-56 | With wins over the Hornets and Blazers, you can actually see ping pong balls being taken out of their pockets. |
| 27(29) | ![]() |
25-51 | Well at least nobody has gotten in trouble in awhile. I mean, I haven’t heard anything. |
| 28(27) | ![]() |
16-61 | At this point the Bobcats are just trying to get Okafor Rookie of the year, instead of trying to win meaningless games. |
| 29(26) | ![]() |
18-58 | 19 year old J.R. Smith is eagerly anticipating a running mate in this year’s draft. He may be the teams franchise player for years to come. His point production has increased month to month from 3ppg in Nov. to 4ppg to 8ppg to 14ppg to 16 ppg in March. |
| 30(30) | ![]() |
12-65 | With a loss at Charlotte Wednesday night, the Hawks can clinch the most ping pong balls in this years draft lottery. |

DENVER SHOULD BE #1 denver is definatly the hottest team right now, you cant say that anyone is playing the type of basketball they are, let alone the way thier shooting the ball, i wouldnt be surprised if they made it to the confrence semi’s and pulled out a win.
Honestly that was a coin flip Denver is the hottest team but I decided to go with the only team (Phoenix) that has beaten them (twice) in the last month and half. Thanks for the comments.
We will never agree… J, I told you I do not agree with your rankings. Now I get the chance to rip them to shreds…
1st, No matter how hot they are, do you think the Nuggets will beat the Spurs in a best of seven? Come on Timmy D has been out, but daddy will be back for the playoffs. You honestly think the Nuggets can hang?
2nd, The bulls the number 7 team? Come on, I bet 20 that they do not come out of the first round. You got them ahead of the Rockets who have been hot ever since T-Mac has decided to take this team over. Plus the Rockets have a better record, out WEST. Plus, what are the bulls going to do without Curry and Deng?
3rd, and last, you going to tell me that the Cavs (even though I love them) are a better team than the Wizards? The Wiz and playing for home court advantage and the Cavs are playing, just so they may play some anywhere in the playoffs.
**P.S. Cavs just Lebrons Team, what about that boy Gooden?
i gotta agree with JaxDeuce I always think of Power Rankings as most likely to win in a playoff battle.
you’re right. we don’t agree. 1st, the only team that has shown they are capable of defeating the nuggets are the suns. the spurs aren’t guaranteed anything this year.
2nd, the power rankings are based on past, present and future. not just future alone. otherwise golden state might be in the top 5. as for houston, 70 at san antonio is almost explainable. but 73 and 78 in home losses to new orleans and phoenix leave a sour taste in my mouth.
3rd, why are you standing up for the wiz kids? they just came off of 5 straight losses vs. eastern conference playoff teams in the midst of their playoff run. these are the teams they are battling with for home court. they lost all of them.
again, the power rankings aren’t about possible playoff matchups. there would only be 16 teams to rank. power rankings are about how well the teams have done all season, how hot they are right now, and how well they should do from here on out.
thank you for the comments.
Be Realistic J come on man, you are killing me.
1st, The Nuggets ARE NOT going to beat the Spurs. The Nuggets ARE NOT the second best team in the NBA, and The Nuggets ARE NOT going to get out of the first round.
2nd, You are looking at what team is doing good now, fine, but remember that the NBA season is a marathon and not a sprint. <—That point goes right into why the Wizards should be ranked higher than the Cavs. Plus the Cavs have won like, what, one game since the All star break?
My fo fo fo fo Not so fast K
1st, I have never said anything about the Nuggets playoff chances. based on their play during the last half of the season and their play right now, the Nuggets are 2nd to only Phoenix. Not saying they are better than a playoff Spurs team, but they are better than the Spurs Ive seen the past month and half
2nd, Its not just about what they are doing right now, its about right now and during the whole season. Granted what they did during the whole season doesnt carry as much weight as current play, but it does carry weight. If you wanna know who the best team is by record, go check the NBA standings on ESPN.com.
And also the Wizards are one spot behind the Cavs? When the Rankings were made on Tuesday, the Wiz had 1 win in their last 6 games. At least the Cavs got 3 W’s in that same span…
Again thanks for the comments.
List of teams Nuggets wouldn’t beat in playoffs Miami
Spurs
Mavs
Suns
Rockets
maybe add the Kings
You left off Detroit….. I think they’ll beat the Kings.
actually Miami is in a kind of tailspin I realize Shaq was out for 3 games but I wonder if it’ll affect their rhythm going into the playoffs. They play 5 games in 7 days and then have to start the playoffs.
What do we have here Look at this, the #1 Kings fan predicts everyone will beat the Kings this year (Must still be hurt about the Webber trade). Either he is lying to us all so he can gloat when the Kings win 1 game, or even he has lost faith in his team.
#1 Realistic Kings Fan The Kings realistically dont have a good enough team to compete in the playoffs this year. Maybe if Bobby Jax and Brad Miller come back, but not with this current bunch. No gloating and no lost faith, just stating facts to have an unbiased Power Ranking….but if you want a biased view from a Kings fan, we are gonna take it all. Definitely better than Cincy’s pro team…uhh nevermind.
J Duece is right the power rankings have nothing to do with what a teams chances aere in the playoffs, name another team that has the record in march and april that the nuggets have.. power rankings are about how hot a team is at a specific time in the season
The Cincy’s Pro Team comment… That was a low blow. That is ok, we claim the Cavs. They are not there yet, but they are the future!
You are right that Kings do not have a chance. Atleast you are not in denial. Now if they happened to win a game, I do not want to hear anything about it!
While it usually is very wrong, atleast you rankings are unbiased, I will give you that.
