NBA Power Rankings March 29th 2005

Here are the new NBA Power Rankings. Comments and beefs are encouraged. Don’t forget the Poll!

1(2) 53-17
Obviously I’ve forgotten Phoenix lost to Miami Friday night. Or maybe Miami found a way to lose the spot…..continue on…..
2(1) 53-18
Miami had the #1 spot sewn up after outscoring the Suns Friday night. But losing to the Bobcats is not what the #1 team in my NBA Power Rankings does. Maybe next week.
3(4) 52-18
The Spurs are a game back of the Suns and it doesn’t look like they are going to catch them. They’ve got 7 of their final 12 games on the road and they haven’t won a road game since Feb 28th.
4(5) 48-21
Seattle’s last 13 games are definitely a tune up for the playoffs. They’ll play the top 10 ten teams(winning percentage) from the west (minus Phoenix) before the playoffs starts.
5(7) 47-23
In beating Detroit Monday night, Dallas looks like a legitimate title contender. The only question will be defense. But then again, that’s the question every year.
6(8) 43-28
Obviously T-Mac’s hip looked a lot worse than it actually is. If he felt any pain he wouldn’t be playing. Besides he dropped 44 last night. I’d say he’s ok.
7(3) 43-27
More than a few times this season, the Pistons have looked like they were in championship form. Last week’s 3 game losing was not one of those times.
8(10) 38-31
Now that Denver believes they are going to make the playoffs, they aren’t satisfied. Don’t be surprised if they finish as the 7th seed. Or higher.
9(16) 38-31
Chicago is on the verge of their 1st playoff appearance since #23 left. Also they are 4 wins away from finishing above .500 for the 1st time in the post Jordan era. They aren’t title contending for the title this year but these are big steps for the Baby Bulls.
10(6) 38-32
Boston has been brought down to earth by a 3 game losing streak. How they bounce back will determine what kind of playoff team they will be. Chances are that they’ll be playing a team with a similar record to their own.
11(11) 44-28
Kings fans weren’t sure if they were better off without Chris Webber. After taking a look at the stat line from Monday night’s game, (Webber 20 and 10, Skinner/Thomas 33 and 34) they can rest easy.
12(12) 39-30
If the playoffs started tomorrow, we would be looking at a Chicago-Washington 1st round match up. That would be the best 1st round series based on the current standings. Even better than the Pistons-Pacers.
13(9) 39-30
Mike Fratello could be a candidate for Coach of the year, but I wouldn’t vote for him. The Grizzlies were supposed to this good.
14(13) 37-34
Minnesota is probably playing their best basketball of the season right. The only problem is the team they are trying to catch (Denver) is doing the same thing.
15(14) 36-34
Anybody that’s surprised at how the Pacers have done without JO has not been watching the Pacers all season. Remember they’ve only had him for 39 games this season. Carlisle should be getting a lot of credit if they make the playoffs.
16(15) 35-35
Since the Kings beat the Sixers for the second time post trade, does that mean that Sacramento got the better of the deal? Not exactly. It just means Philly has a lot more work to do.
17(17) 36-32
Ok so maybe they were losing to the Hornets by 15 at the beginning of the 4th. Maybe it took overtime to get the win. But the win was their 1st on the road since January 22nd. They’ll be plenty happy with that.
18(18) 33-38
This is another team that has a bright future. And by bright future, I mean next season.
19(20) 25-45
The Warriors have won 4 of 5 to reach 9 wins in a month for the first time this season. More amazing than that is they have played ten road games this month, their most road games in a month this season.
20(23) 32-38
The Laker’s wins might have built the Staples Center, but for the 1st time ever, the Clippers could finish with the better home record. Clippers have 25 home wins compared to the Lakers 21.
21(19) 32-37
Chucky Atkins says that Kobe is the GM and its Kobe’s team. Lets thanks Chucky for stating the obvious.
22(22) 29-40
The Knicks have 1 thing in common with their next 3 opponents, Lakers, Nets, and Bucks. None of these teams are going to the playoffs.
23(21) 33-37
Even with their win over the Hawks, Orlando looks nothing like a playoff hopeful team. Losing to the Bobcats twice in one week shouldn’t happen. No matter who isn’t playing.
24(24) 29-40
Blame Canada. Toronto is sporting a better home record (21-13) than potential playoff teams (20-14) Philadelphia and Indiana. Keep an eye out for the Raptors next season.
25(25) 27-43
After losing all 5 games on their recent road trip, the Bucks haven’t won a road game since the 22nd. Of February.
26(29) 15-54
The Bobcats had 3 wins in 5 days last week. They haven’t done that in…well ever.
27(28) 22-48
If you are Jerry Sloan, would you come back? I wouldn’t. They have some serious rebuilding to do.
28(27) 16-54
The Hornets finally got that elusive 1st win over a division opponent Saturday night. Since they only have 1 division game remaining, (vs. Houston) I doubt they’ll reach number 2.
29(26) 24-45
You know it’s bad when average players (Stoudamire) are openly talking about future teams (Knicks) before the season is over.
30(30) 11-59
I am not sure if this is a record but the Hawks are about to follow up their 1 win February with a 1 win March. They are gonna have a lot of lottery balls.

I always look foward to your article… but i was a little disappointed in some of the rankings. First i dont think the Pistons should be so high, and i still believe Miami is #1. I think the Nuggets are rated to high also. The tops seven teams just seem like a higher level then all the other ones and then it just breaks off into the mediocre teams i enjoyed the article though

Thanks for feedback.. I had the Pistons at 3 last week so I didnt want to dump them too far this week. They aren’t bad but they are very inconsistent. My reason for Denver being so high is that they only had 2 losses in the month of March (Both to Phoenix). And Miami really had no business losing to Charlotte. Or else they would have remained at the top. Thanks again for the comments, they are appreciated.
