2011 NFL Week 11 Picks and Podcast

This might be the week to say to your girlfriend/wife, “You know, it’d be nice to get out on a Sunday. Let’s do something outside together.” You don’t have to tell her that this might be the worst slate of games since the year of the replacement players. Every week we try to feature 4 exciting games on the podcast. It was a struggle to even find 2.

Your (sorta) Featured Games this week are Jaguars at Browns, Bills at Dolphins, Raiders at Vikings, and Chargers at Bears. We challenge you to find another game that’s significantly better than these.

You can download the podcast directly (running time 120 mins) or subscribe to the feed. The weekly picks show is followed by a half hour of Poor Man’s PTI where we discuss the NBA situation.

If you use iTunes, just click here and then click subscribe and iTunes will take care of the rest.

Locks of the Week

Vegas Vinny: (4-6, Balance=$700) Here’s what Rex Ryan had to say this week: “We used to see Miami run their version of the Wildcat with a great running back in Ronnie Brown. But, obviously, Ronnie wasn’t a great thrower. We do have experience against the Wildcat before. Tebow is obviously a better passer than most guys back there.”

Is he really Rex? Is he really? You can’t be an NFL quarterback and complete 2 passes even if 50% of your completions are touchdowns. Your QB is supposed to make his team better. You’re not supposed to tailor your offense around your QB to hide his flaws. Yes, maybe you do that when your starting QB gets injured and you have to start a backup in a hurry. But not when your QB is a first rounder and you’re paying him a truckload of money.

The Tim Tebow experiment is ridiculous and the Jets are going to go into Denver and do to them what the Lions did. The defensive players will be joking and laughing by the 4th quarter as the Jets have their best game of the season and beat the Broncos 37-9. I fully expect to see Revis tebowing after he picks off Tebow for a pick six. I’ll put $110 to win $100 on the Jets (-6).

BostonMac: (5-4, Balance=$1185) I’m going to write this lock up quickly so I don’t submit my pick last and possibly face the wrath of our editor Vin aka The Hammer. This one’s for Raider Fan (as I said on the show, I am for the people). Oakland is going to destroy Minnesota this week. Even without McFadden, Michael Bush has stepped up and filled the gap nicely (that’s what she said), and Carson Palmer is starting to get some rhythm with his receivers, especially Denarius Moore (who I left on my fantasy bench last week and had to settle for a tie. Meanwhile, since I locked up the Vikings once Christian Ponder took over under center, they’ve been in steady decline. They went from damn near knocking off the Packers in Week 7 to getting ambushed last Monday night. I think the trend continues here and Oakland goes into Minnesota and lays a hurting on the Vikes. After last week’s Jets debacle, I need a victory here. $110 to win $100 on OAKLAND (pick ’em).

RJ: (2-7, Balance =$540)Host Vin Diec has put down the smack down on our lack of lock write-ups recently. In fact, he’s been strutting around the hallways here at Poor Man’s PTI demanding to be called The Hammer (no truth to the rumor he was caught in the women’s dorms at La Salle University doing the same thing.) So in order to please Mr. I’m Roger Fucking Goodell All The Sudden, I’m taking my medicine and turning this in before the due date. Also, as a service to you dear listeners/readers, I’m giving you a reason to pay attention to the most un-pay-attention-able game of the week. Well, that may be CLE-JAX but I already talked about that enough. Not even Goodell himself would put me through that.

The Rams looked pretty bad the first half of the season, but that was to be expected with their schedule. Now that the most difficult teams are out of the way, they have been playing much better. Well, considering they scored exactly 13 points each of the last two weeks, maybe not so much. But still, facing a Seahawks team coming off a bizarre home win against Baltimore is a good spot for the Rams. Seattle has a pretty lousy defense that can’t get much pressure, while St. Louis defense has been outstanding since their Dallas debacle. Plus, Seattle has won 11 of the past 12 against St. Louis, so I think it’s time that trend reversed. I can’t say I’m crazy about the RAMS (-3), but my prediction that they will be a second half surprise is on track.

Burton: (5-5, Balance =$1590) I’ll keep things short and sweet. Baltimore is good at home: 4-0 straight-up and 3-1 ATS. That one loss was against an Arizona team that is 6-3 this year ATS, including 4-1 on the road, in a game where Baltimore didn’t show up for the first half.

Cincinnati, coming off an emotional loss that exposed the Bengals inexperience, is playing to keep its surprise season together. Baltimore, on the other hand, is trying to position itself for a run deep into January. The Bengals have been in this situation before, and more often than not, they’ve faded. I expect the same to happen this year. As only an 8-point favorite, I have to throw a little of my monumental bankroll around. $55 to win $50 on Baltimore. I play smart after all.

What is the call in #? I want to yell at Burton. Can’t believe he picked Den and got the win. I wouldnt get to cocky tho… Seahawks, Browns and Ravens will kill him.
