Can anyone tell me what is going on with the Detroit Lions? Three 1st round wide recievers, a 1st round quarterback, and an aging skills declining tight end. We’ll just grab up this bunch, because aside from these highly touted yet underachieving youngsters, the rest of the Lions look not half bad. Let’s start with Charles Rogers, the famous eggshell collarbone who continues to frustrate fantasy football players season after season with injuries, and now inconsistent play. The guy has tremendous potential. The year he came out of college he was touted as evenly skilled as the great Randy Moss. The only thing similar I’ve seen between the All Pro great and the collarbone is their ability to frustrate people. What was that? Oh, Roy Williams. I have enormous respect for this guy. A tremendous rookie season in which he blew out of the gates fast and in my eyes did take the league by storm, he kinda faded down the stretch and for some reason that has carried into this season. Oh, and Mike Williams. This guy can flat out play. Trust me. Everyone knows this, teams and GM’s know this, and any defensive back he ever faced in College knows this. I’m not concerned with his production just yet, as I do have faith that his time will come. 3 first round receivers, yet a combined measely 445 yards and 2 td’s. And let’s not forget Marcus Pollard, a great Tight End 3 or four years ago, a serviceable one now. He gives them a new dimension, yet doesn’t have that game changing ability of a Tony Gonzalez or Jeremy Shockey. What about Kevin Jones? No I didn’t forget him, but this kid can run with the best of them and I don’t care if you have Walter Payton or Eric Dickerson on your squad, you can’t run effective if your team can’t pass the ball. Plain and simple. Which leads me to Joey Harrington, yet another 1st rounder. A great College Quarterback, he’s done nothing as a Pro. Coach Mariucci’s offense requires precision passing, ala Steve Young and the 9’ers, but what they don’t realize is that Harrington’s never been accurate. Never. He’s a career 54% passer. Maybe he’s stuck in the wrong offense, or maybe he’s just not made for the NFL. Whatever the case, unless he shows improvement, and not just in a couple games but the remainder of the season, I don’t see why the team would waste their time with him any longer. So yes, through all this rambling and ranting you may have been wondering or even forgot what I was getting at, so I’ll refresh you. Joey Harrington is what’s wrong with the Detroit Lions. His supporting cast has the potential to be dominant, but he, in my eyes, doesn’t. Maybe he’ll pan out elsewhere, or maybe he’ll go Akili Smith on us. Who knows? All I know is that there’s a great Quarterback by the name of Brodie Croyle who should, by all rights, be around by the time the Lions get to pick in the 1st round of the 2006 NFL Draft, and I think they’d be foolish to pass him up. And oh yeah, for all of you who may be thinking, “well they’re in 1st place”, just take a peek at the division. Go ahead, peek. Later.

Nice rant… …but not an article. you had good thoughts and brought up a few nice points. u juss need to organize ur thoughts better, space out ur paragraphs and make it longer.
Well I agree with your article. If you look at this Lions roster they look like a division winner easy, but the fact that they have no leadership at all and a offensive system that is oppisite to Joey Harrington’s strength is a big problem. Also, just becuase your a first round draft pick doen’t mean you should be a great pro QB, shit happens. Tim Couch.
I think everyone has put to much on Joey’s shoulders than needed though. Through his entire career the guy has never singled out his teamates, blew up on his coach, or complain when he or the team wasn’t being productive. Im not saying he deserves to be treated like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, but you cant always pin the blame on the QB.
I think Mooch is the Lions biggest problem and I think you hit the nail on the head when saying his system (the west coast offense, which consists of repitition and preciseness in all aspects of the game) isn’t the right one for detroit.
The length I dont think is a problem though becuase if you space things out the article will have a respectable size.
But, heck what do I know I’m a 16 year old kid with a dream as Norman Chad would say, I hate that damn guy. Note to ESPN: Norman Chad is thee most annoying person in the universe, the guy is mindboggaling annoying. Just a thought.
