Another confusing week in the NFL. Indy remains at #1 with a decisive victory over the Rams but after that, it’s mostly a crapshoot. Is Tampa Bay really a top 5 team? How do you factor in the loss of Brian Griese? Does Pittsburg losing without Roethlisberger mean anything? Here are your power rankings for Week 6.
| Rank (Pv) | Team | Record | Comment |
| 1 (1) | ![]() |
6-0 | The knock against the Colts’ Defense was that
they hadn’t played anyone good. Well, St Louis is the 4th ranked offensive team in the NFL. Any more questions? |
| 2 (3) | ![]() |
5-1 | The Broncos are the second hottest team in the
league and have made a believer out of me. The only thing that concerns me is a lack of a bonafide #1 WR. Ashley Lelie? please. |
| 3 (4) | ![]() |
5-1 | They can put a little early season distance
between them and Pittsburgh next week for the division. Definition of breakout season: Carson Palmer is leading the league in TD passes. |
| 4 (5) | ![]() |
5-1 | Torn MCL and ACL for Brian Griese means
Tampa Bay is in big trouble. Chris Simms’ passer rating is 66.1 with 1 TD and 3 INTs. |
| 5 (6) | ![]() |
4-2 | So maybe they got a gift from the officials. But
they still got themselves into FG position by going 45 yards in 37 secs. |
| 6 (10) | ![]() |
3-2 | They didn’t beat Pittsburgh’s “A” team but their
defense came up with big plays. So much for Fred Taylor staying healthy all season. |
| 7 (2) | ![]() |
3-2 | They will need both Ben and Hines back to keep
up with Carson and Chad this week. Scoring 1 TD like they did last week definitely won’t cut it against the Bengals. |
| 8 (7) | ![]() |
3-2 | The Eagles have won all of their games after a
bye week under Andy Reid. |
| 9 (11) | ![]() |
4-2 | The guy in SD gets all the attention but Alexander
has quietly become the other player to rush for 10 TDs or more in five consecutive seasons. |
| 10 (12) | ![]() |
4-2 | Losing Julius Jones means even more pressure
on Drew Bledsoe. Good news for Cowboys fans is that he is the number 3 passer in the NFL. |
| 11 (14) | ![]() |
3-3 | I know that Marty got a lot of heat for not using
Tomlinson enough early in the season but that was ridiculous. I’m already looking forward to the week 17 game against Denver. |
| 12 (13) | ![]() |
4-2 | Either they have a lot of heart for comebacks or
they just play down to the level of their competition. Half empty or half full. |
| 13 (8) | ![]() |
3-3 | Will Bruschi really make that much of a
difference? It’s the secondary that’s the problem. |
| 14 (18) | ![]() |
3-2 | Despite giving up 21 points, the defense came up
big in the win against the Redskins. |
| 15 (9) | ![]() |
3-2 | Giants have lost their last 5 games after the bye.
The big drop in the rankings is because top 10 teams don’t squander 4 turnovers. |
| 16 (16) | ![]() |
3-3 | Holcomb is making that offense click (including
Willis McGahee) the way JP never did. Controversy should be over. |
| 17 (15) | ![]() |
3-2 | After high early season expectations and a hot
start, two losses in a row drop them to the middle of the pack. They are getting the better end of that Moss-Coles deal. |
| 18 (17) | ![]() |
2-3 | Between Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, they
had 14 attempts for 30 yards. Those look like an Andy Reid coached team’s stats. |
| 19 (30) | ![]() |
2-3 | I know we’ve been down on Kyle Orton, but he
was 16 for 25, 117 yards, 2 TDs and an INT. In Atlanta, that’s considered a great game by a QB. |
| 20 (20) | ![]() |
2-3 | You know times are tough in the NFL when an
“almost win” keeps you afloat in the rankings. The look on Mooch’s face when Ricky Proehl caught that TD was priceless. Couldn’t blame that one on Joey Harrington. |
| 21 (28) | ![]() |
2-3 | The win against a very mediocre Cleveland team
doesn’t mean this team is going to contend again but at least their offense is looking better. |
| 22 (25) | ![]() |
1-4 | Welcome to the bottom of the rankings, where a
bye week is the best thing that can happen to you. |
| 23 (23) | ![]() |
2-4 | Bulger will miss a couple of weeks with the
shoulder injury. Judging from Jamie Martin’s performance, Rams could be out of playoff contention by their bye week. |
| 24 (21) | ![]() |
2-4 | This team was counting on an immobile QB and a
running game to carry them through. Now Kevin Mawae’s out for the season. The only question left is what # draft pick with the Jets screw up this year. |
| 25 (19) | ![]() |
1-4 | Moss is (probably) out. They’re 1-4. The chic
pick for AFC West winner is already done. |
| 26 (22) | ![]() |
2-4 | They aren’t winning ball games but their 21 ppg
average at least makes them fun to watch. That’s more than we can say for most of the bottom half of the teams in the rankings. |
| 27 (27) | ![]() |
2-4 | Even without Deuce McAlister, they were able to
push the Falcons. Perhaps signing a deal to stay in San Antonio will turn their season around. |
| 28 (24) | ![]() |
2-3 | Braylon Edwards will be out another month recovering from an elbow infection. Meanwhile the top receiver hasn’t cracked 100 yards since Edwards has been out. |
| 29 (29) | ![]() |
1-4 | Arizona’s DE cuts arm while falling out of a window and is out for the season. At least he wasn’t washing his truck with Jeff Kent. |
| 30 (26) | ![]() |
1-4 | If you’re a Minnesota fan, you can be comforted by the fact that they’re having more wild and crazy sex than you are. |
| 31 (31) | ![]() |
1-4 | SF is losing defensive players left and right to injury. This isn’t good news for a team that already is allowing at least 25 points a game in each of the first five games. |
| 32 (32) | ![]() |
0-5 | Imagine being in Houston where you come within an out of the World Series. And then also realizing the Texans are your team. And knowing that even if you get the first pick, your team might decide not to get Leinert. |
