The NBA Power Rankings are back! Thanks to all who voted for the NBA Midseason awards last week.
As usual, all comments and complaints are welcomed.

1(1) 43-14
With Nash missing the previous 3 games, the Suns have only averaged an “awful” 118 ppg. Could that be hurting his MVP chances?
2(4) 43-13
The Spurs home loss to the Grizzlies was only their 2nd home loss of the season. Before Saturday, their last home loss was December 8th vs. Seattle. With 11 of their next 15 games at home, the Spurs look poised for a big run.
3(2) 38-16
The Sonics have built their record on hot shooting and good team basketball. Against Milwaukee, they shot 29% and had only 13 assists. And fittingly they got smoked by 26 points.
4(5) 38-17
I always like a deal when you can pick up something for virtually nothing. That’s what the Mavs did when they acquired Keith Van Horn last week. They picked up Van Horn for Alan Henderson, Calvin Booth and cash. So basically they became a team that can come out of the west and all they gave up were 2 bags of peanuts.
5(9) 35-19
The Pistons have won 7 straight and look like the hottest team in basketball right now. Problem is that they only beat 2 teams with winning records during that span. With road games in Phoenix, Seattle and Sacramento approaching, they’ll have a chance to prove the streak isn’t a fluke.
6(3) 42-16
When ESPN prematurely reported that Shaq was out for the season, I am positive I heard millions of Laker fans yell in joy. Sorry Laker fans, Shaq will be back, but I don’t think he’ll EVER be back to his earlier season form. (Whatever form that was).
7(7) 36-21
New era in Sacramento began with 2 straight wins. No C-dub, no problem. The best thing about the trade is that the king’s fans won’t have to worry about Webber disappearing in the 4th quarter during the playoffs.
8(8) 31-25
The Grizzlies leaped out of their 4 game skid with a good win in San Antonio over the weekend. That win, along with their win over the revamped Warriors, kept the Grizz from leaping out of the top 8.
9(9) 32-24
Before the break, the Rockets were the hottest team in the NBA, but since the break they’ve lost 3 straight. It’s not a coincidence that Bob Sura hasn’t played in any of those losses. They’ll continue to struggle till he gets back.
10(12) 29-24
The Bulls might not be having long winning streaks, but they are winning at 3 out of 4 clip. And don’t look over your shoulder Cavs, because the baby Bulls rae only a game back.
11(10) 31-24
Its all fine and dandy that Usher got a piece of the Cavs, but unless he can get out and play some ball, who cares? All the focus on the Cavs ownership situation has masked the fact the Cleveland is on a 3 game skid and are in danger of being caught by the Chicago in the standings.
12(19) 28-27
Hey, a little 5 games winning streak and the Pacers are right back in the thick of things. Hopefully they’ll stay on this track, because with a western conference road trip looming, its not going to get any easier.
13(15) 26-29
Ok Philly fans, now you’ve got it. Adding C-Webb to AI and their mix of young players, the Sixers are now legitimate Eastern Conference contenders. If they cant take the Atlantic Division now, their isn’t an excuse in the world I’ll accept.
14(17) 27-29
By winning 4 of 5, the Nuggets have realized that time is running out. Problem is, its going to take more than an 8 seed with 45 wins to get the bad taste of their earlier awful playing out of my mouth.
15(14) 29-28
Boston saw Philly go get C-Webb, so they go get Antoine Walker? Danny Ainge proved that winning is the only option by accepting his mistake of dumping Walker 2 years ago. And Walker would have went to the moon to play for a team that can make the playoffs.
16(11) 31-24
It seems like Arenas has been the only player to consistently step his game up since Hughes went out. As good as they were during the 1st half; they can be just that bad during the 2nd half and screw everything up.
17(18) 28-27
Kobe settled! Kobe settled! Let me be the 501st person to say WHO CARES! Maybe now we can all get back to the only court that matters, the hardwood one.
18(16) 25-32
With Philly and Boston both making moves, we all forgot that New Jersey started it all when they got VC. With Jefferson, the race for the Atlantic division would’ve been a 3 team race. But now its just 2 teams and the rest are wannabes.
19(13) 28-27
It looks like the Orlando magic Cinderella season is coming to a close. They gave it good run, but they just aren’t good enough. The season is still a success though; remember they only won 21 games last season.
20(22) 24-32
All is good in Canada. They beat former “teammate” Vince Carter and are on a 3 game winning streak. They don’t have enough to challenge for the playoffs but they should make it interesting by beating some of the teams that do.
21(20) 23-21
The bucks made a franchise decision by not trading Michael Redd. Good idea, since he says he wants to remain in Milwaukee. Michael Redd and a healthy TJ Ford are very good rebuilding pieces.
22(21) 28-29
Maybe Kevin McHale was too busy coaching to notice that the trading deadline was coming and going. I don’t care if they couldn’t get something worthwhile for Sprewell, he should be gone. I would’ve dropped Spree for 2 bags of birdseed and a can of raid.
23(27) 16-39
Hey, the warriors did something right this time. Baron Davis automatically gives the Warriors at least 10 TNT games next year. Davis and J-Rich are now one of the most explosive backcourts ever.
24(25) 24-33
It seems like Isaiah just couldn’t resist tinkering a little bit. Sometimes I think he runs the Knicks like most of us play NBA Live.
25(23) 25-32
The Clippers got home after that ridiculous 9 game road trip and promptly got 2 straight wins. That trip had to be a scheduling mistake. Whatever you wanna make of it, the Clips are probably too far back to make any kind of recovery.
26(24) 22-32
Trading deadline passed and there are no big deals. Is there a flu epidemic going around up in Rose country? The Blazers are another team that made the mistake of staying quiet while everybody else wheeled and dealed.
27(26) 14-37
Here’s a confusing stat: the Jazz are 15-20 vs. Western Conference, while they are a awful 4-17 vs. the East. I can’t really explain that one.
28(28) 11-45
Now the cupboard is officially bare.
29(30) 11-42
Okafor has got some work to do if he wants that rookie of the year award. Former teammate Ben Gordon is coming. He’s coming fast.
30(29) 10-45
Hey anybody see that Josh Smith in dunk contest? That was a great tribute to Hawks veteran Dominique Wilkins. (Its hard to write something uplifting about the Hawks).

You have hit the rankings on the nose this week With the exception of Dallas (they should be 6 and Detroit and Miami each up one), these is not a single pick I disagree with.

Actually, I think the Minnesota Timberwolves are at the same level as the Los Angeles Kobes, but it does not make a difference.

Keep up the great work.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I decided to Dallas the 4 because of theyve won 7 of 8 and have beaten sacramento twice, seattle and phoenix during that span.

I am not completely sold on the pistons and miami lost to chicago and indy last week.

Thanks again for the feedback.

I usually go nuts about big… …moves in Philly. But while I’m happy AI is happy…I don’t think C-WEBB helps us win jack.

But we weren’t winning jack before so it’s a no lose situation…

C webb helps us win the Atlantic If we cant win the f’ing Atlantic with this team, OBrien needs to go.

I hear Mo Cheeks just got fired today so…. welcome  home?

I love MO but… …he aint done jack as a coach. You think Randy Ayers had no discipline?

Ayers is a joke I’m happy with O’Brien so far.  I was just throwing it out there.

I think the Sixers are fine and arguably the 3rd best team in the conference.  I know everyone is upset about giving up a bunch of point to the knicks and bucks but as Andy would say, “we’re fine there”.
