The stage is set for another classic duel of Brady vs. Manning... Eli Manning. If anyone asked me who I thought would come out on top of this match-up at mid-season it's likely that I would've punched them in the head, and never spoken to them again for fear of associating myself with such a astonishing imbecile. However, it's not mid-season anymore and going into the final game of the year these two teams aren't nearly the same as they were then. Their leaders under center have transformed dramatically over the past few weeks, and it has changed the face of the Super Bowl dramatically as well. We might have a game on our hands after all.

A little trivia question: Who holds the NFL record for most consecutive games played?  Brett Favre, of course... right?  Nope.  Incorrect.  Negatory.  Wrongo.  The correct answer is Jeff Feagles.  No, not the crazy kicker from Ace Ventura.  That was Ray Finkle.  "If he had held the ball laces out like he's supposed to, Ray would never have missed that kick... Dan Marino should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell!"  Jeff Feagles is in fact a punter, currently booting the ball down field after frequent Eli Manning third-and-outs with the Giants.

Woo-hoo! I love this time of year. The Yankees are in the playoffs, the Hurricanes start tonight against the Canadiens and the Giants are finally showing signs of life! In my return from a long hiatus from Sportscolumn, I will be discussing the Big Blue. They didn't play great in the opening two games, but against the Redskins and Eagles they came alive and high hopes for the season are back.

Mr. Edward R. Murrow, a famous CBS newscaster who brought Joseph McCarthy to his knees in the Red Scare of the 50's always signed off by saying "Good Night, and Good Luck", hence the movie bearing this phrase as it's title.  Flip it around and you have yourself a good playoff slogan for twelve teams vying for the Lombardi Trophy. In this article, let's focus on the New York Giants.

The playoffs have a different feel this year than in recent years. In those years there were clearly defined contenders and pretenders for the championship. However, this year the playoffs seem truly wide open. This year the playoffs are centered on three inexperienced quarterbacks: Tony Romo of the Cowboys, Rex Grossman of the Bears, and Philip Rivers of the Chargers. If they can rise to the occasion their teams will make the runs expected of them. If they falter, proven veterans will seize the day.

The NFC is the perfect example of what parity has done to the league. It has made teams competitive which have been awful the year before. With parity, you can go through Hurricane Katrina one year and earn a bye the next. Parity has also made mediocrity a premium. The 8-8 Giants are in the playoffs, and teams like Green Bay were still in it going into the last week of the regular season. The playoff picture in the NFC is murky, with no clear cut choice. With that said, here is how it should play out.

Now that most of the team's problems have been identified, we can examine potential solutions on the coaching staff and defense for the New York Giants. These solutions will not work overnight, but they will help the team in the future, and possibly get them to the Super Bowl in future years.

Here I am, the total New York Giants fan. I have sat through fifteen weeks of wins, losses, good performances and bad ones. I have sat through injuries, from Derrick Ward to Sinorice Moss to Michael Strahan. In vain, I have watched Tim Lewis set up a zone defense, one in which the middle of the field is exposed. Here I am, I have seen Eli Manning make mistakes, throw his arms up in the air, and look like a wounded puppy all at the same time. Yes, I have seen the worst tackle and best hug of all time, courtesy of Mathias Kiwanuka to Vince Young. I saw Martin Gramatica, out of the NFL for 2 years (prior to 2006) kick that game-winning field goal, in our house. Please, on behalf of all of us- it is time for a total overhaul.

First off, I would like to give a hearty hey in my first article back here on Sportscolumn. College is crazy, and it's a lot of fun, too bad the classes get in the way. But I am back and woe-weary of the New York Giants. My head is spinning at how fast downhill the Giants have gone. Eli's confidence is shot, there is discord in the locker room and players are making stupid mistakes. But does this team still have a shot in the NFC?
