Vin has been heckling me for the lack of quantity of my writing lately.

And by "lack of quantity," I mean I haven't posted a column since February 2007 when I wrote some diatribe about how NASCAR, and by extension the South in general, sucks.

Even though I've been a loyal and regular contributor to Poor Man's PTI, my absence from the printed word has been somewhat unexplained.   So I think I owe it to the readers and especially to my colleagues Vin, Trevor, R.J., Billy, Kris, et al, to explain my writing void.

One off game. That's all it was, right? Yeah, sure. Until game two rolled around and Lebron's already suspect perimeter game was exposed for all the world to see.

Sure, he's the most exciting player in the NBA, that is, if you haven't already jumped on the Chris Paul bandwagon, but dear God, are we seriously going to overlook this?

Are we for real, in all our skeptical wisdom as fans and writers, going to look past a 19% shooting effort and 17 turnovers in two straight games? And not just any two games. We're talking two straight games in the second round of the playoffs. You know, the series that, if you were to win it, you're suddenly four wins away from the NBA Finals.

I mean, I hate to say it, but isn't this kind of all sorts of hilarious? Bare with me folks, but I'm going to go out on a limb here. Despite what Stephen A. Smith (the A stands for something other than his parents intended) and others want you to believe, Lebron "King" James, is in full choke mode.

Its the 2nd year in a row the Celtics have missed the playoffs. What has happened to this storied franchise? 16 NBA championships all time, but they can't make it into the playoffs two years in a row. Even though they are one of the worst teams in the league, ending the season with a horrid record of 25-57, star players Paul Pierce and Al Jefferson have guaranteed the playoffs for the 2007-2008 season. So what I'm asking myself is, what Celtics will we see next year, the dynasty from the 80's, or the car crash of the 2000's?

Just when the Boston Celtics were starting to get hot, Paul Pierce got injured, for 3 weeks. The question in the minds of Boston fans is: What Now? Well the Celtics can not trade for Allen Iverson, who recently got traded to the Denver Nuggets, and there are no more than one or two star calibur players, including Pierce, on the Celtics. So what is going to happen over the next 3 long weeks? I've got the answers.

My first impression of Red Auerbach will be my lasting impression of Red Auerbach. Red Auerbach was a New York guy who grew up on tough New York streets, a guy who might well have been a character created by Damon Runyon. Red would have been a Runyon race track guy with a racing form rolled up in his pocket and a dead cigar in hand, always looking for angles --- always looking for a winning edge. And for the better part of his 89 years Red Auerbach always found a winning edge.
