Following my article, Justine Henin has gone on to win the U.S. Open.  I am a bit biased of course, but I think she is proving herself to be the best number 1 player since Serena was on top of her game.

I read that the TV ratings for this year's final matches of the Open were down from last year, but what do you expect?  Roddick was not in the men's final this time and Sharapova has more universal appeal than Kuznetsova.  Without Americans, only real tennis fans will watch.  It is the same everywhere.  Many less Belgians would have cared without Henin being there.

I've been watching NFL action this week.  Note to the editor:  Lions are still at top of their division.  At least one team in Michigan is off to a good start.

I find myself rooting for teams I usually never cared for such as San Francisco and Tennessee.  I've never been a huge fan of dynasties and it would be nice to see some new blood at the top of the standings.  Both of these teams have been there before (Tennessee in the Super Bowl and S.F. as a dynasty), but it has been awhile and you get this feeling they're due soon.  Maybe not this year, but soon.

I've enjoyed the positive press on Kobe Bryant lately.  Of course, his participation with Team USA has been good for him.  The story written on this site about his trip to the Philippines does him a lot of justice and I hope his attitude has taken a turn for the better.  It's too bad he has to go back and play in L.A. with their horrible team management over the past few years.

Being a Tiger fan, I'm not sure what to do with this year's baseball season.  Looks like the Yanks got themselves back in the play-offs, but I'm hoping the Red Sox win this weekend's series so they have to go as the wildcard.  Sorry Alex.

At least this has been a year of parity.  Unless someone goes on a serious streak, there will be no 100 game winners or 100 game losers this season with play-off pictures not being fully in focus until the last week and, perhaps, the last day.  Gotta like that after all the controversy about the legitimacy of the home-run record.

On a final footnote and sorry to all you Americans who think NASCAR is the only kind of auto racing;  As if Formule 1 didn't have enough controversy with McLaren teammates Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso feuding as they lead the standings, there is a possibility their whole team could be kicked out if found guilty of spying on Ferrari.  Is this the next big thing after doping scandals?  Seems the NFL's New England is also being investigated for using cameras during the Jets game.  It's like the sports version of insider trading.  Heck, baseball teams have been stealing signals for a century.  For once, they're not getting the black eye.
